Hi!

A friend asked me if I could rack a pair of Harrison32C, and another pair of Trident 80B console channel strips.. (I don't know the fabrication year).
I didn't have see the channels already, but the idea is to rack each Preamp/EQ, pair in a 2U 19" rack box. 360mm deep.

How difficult/challenging can be racking? I mean... average time to rack properly each pair?
I know I will have to cut the boards in the right place...:p
Also I will have to build a psu.. I know, nothing is easy, but want to have an approximate idea of what I will have to face.

Thank you for your advise!

My ¢2, it would be cheaper, easier and less destructive to mount all four channels vertically in a box next to the 19" racks. The end cost and time investment to do this type of operation correctly, they could buy currently available reproduction rack units. You are going to need:

-Case measurement, fabrication, and drilling for mounting
-Researching the pinout and sourcing edge connectors or hand wiring to the board (servicing nightmare)
-Power Supply purchase, mounting and wiring
-Connector mounting and wiring
-Cutting the face plates and drilling for case mounting
-PCB support/How the PCB mounts to the faceplate if that support is cut
-Cutting the circuit boards
-Modifying the traces/component locations
-Adding a fader pot (probably need to do this either way)
-Potentially needing to refurbish the modules depending on condition
-Always something else you dont think about

I end up turning away 50% of custom requests because most people dont really understand the scope of work they are asking for vs the return/use case they will get from it. I am particularly against chopping channel modules that someone may be searching for to complete their short loaded desk. They usually arent making any more of them. Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Hi!

Thanks for all comments!,... finally it won't happen!. He desisted to buy these channels... but he has other plans: like adding MIC input transformers to his soundcraft VIENNA 2!! It is a 40CH frame. But there is little or any info about what mic transformer models could be fitted in these channels. Any suggestion is wellcome!! Also, this console comes with two CPS1000 psu. He asked me if there are modern replacements for these...
