Well here it is . After much self doubt and some guess work, I managed to finish my second U87. It sounds truly great. Slightly less output than my previous one, since i used a Cinemag CM-2480 which has a ratio of 11:1 i believe. The capsule is a Microphone-parts K87 and the donor body is an MXL 2010. That's where the trouble began, Very little room to work with, and the labeling is wrong, but a more solid build than the microphone parts one, which seems to have a cheaper aluminum body that scratches easily.
I thought i would include a couple of pics so you could have a good laugh at the way i secured the boards to the rails. I could'nt score plastic rails like atticmic did, so i drilled hole in the width of the rails, and tied the board to them with wire. What the hell...it works, and does'nt even move around...that much. The transformer is loose, but i'll probably secure it epoxy. Anyone have any objections to this?
Thanks a lot to everyone on this great forum ,and especially to Dan and Udo who have been great help.

Congrats,

but take care that the B1 pcb (the one with the fet on it) has a good ground connection.
I ran an extra ground wire to one of the mounting rails on my B2Pros.
Just to be safe....

Best,

Udo.

Does anyone have pictures or a method for mounting the Cinemag transformer inside the B2 Pro body? Thanks again.

Hey guys! I'm searching for the (I need 3) 1 GOhm thick film resistor for the u87 pcb. I have been searching for a few days now and need help. Thanks guys!

Hi Jones,

Mouser gives me plenty of options

http://dk.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Resistors/Film-Resistors/Thick-Film-Resistors-Through-Hole/_/N-7gz43?P=1z0vkogZ1z0z819

Can you use some of these?

this one is from dan's mouser bom:

Hello Leifur,

sorry for chiming in but the second link leads to a 1 MEGA-Ohms resistor, not to 1 GIGA-ohms.

Best,

Udo. ;)

I posted a page or 2 back a link for a 1G resistor from digikey cause mouser have one but it is damn expensive they the same one that digikey has but it has a MOQ of 5000
i debated my point but they would not change that,
if you look in the mouser bom for it I always put sub part number in ther customer part number field
hope this helps,
Dan,

Hi, i am about to start building it, but i made an order from newark, and the only resistor for 68m ohm they got, is so damn huge it wont fit.

Do anybody knows if there is a place i can order it? i cant find anyware.

Mouser costs me 100usd shipping to argentina :( cant pay that for 2 resistors. Any info is appreciated :)

If not, it is possible to replace with another value, or maybe.. 2 resistors of 30/33mohm(if i can get them)?

Thanks!!

Hello,

yes you can do  series resistors, there's plenty of room on the pcb in those spots.
Sad to hear shipping is unbelievable expensive!

Best,

Udo.

Thank you!

I found these ones.

Tonight i finished the last step of my build

I can share the illustrator file if someone wants to use it to make his own variation on the "poorman"

all the best,

Hello,

is the logo a water decal?

Best,

Udo.

yes, i bought inkjet printable decal paper. It's pretty straightforward to use. but i think i'll have to give it at least one cote of clear to make it last.....
