Hi guys. I want to change all capacitors on Neve 33115  ..Please help with a good source for axial capacitors..
I already  watch some Vishay  at Farnell  its  a 118 AHT Series..Are they a good replacement for these old philips capacitors?

The vishay are expensive and ive heard of people opening them and finding a modern component sealed into an outsized axial style can .
Panasonic do or used to do a range of very compact axials ,might cost you 20 cent a pop ,where the Vishays might cost anything up to a few euros or dollars each.

If they are passing signal maybe some NP crossover caps. But in my experience axial el- caps are very limited. I would see if your favorite radial cap would fit.

Do not use NP/BP caps in these modules.  Somewhere on GS Geoff Tanner goes on a rant about that.  Has to do with the outputs of the amp cards sitting at 1/2 rail voltage.

In our 53 series Neve with 33114 and 33115 modules we used radial Nichicons and just spread the leads to fit when needed.  Note that several of the axials are stood on end in these modules anyhow.

The Vishay equivalent is the 021 ASM Series.

I don't know about the 'modern cap inside the tube' thing. Be good to check that out.

I miss my 5315. Had to let it go back in '06 ...

Might know of one available here stateside if you are in the market again.  Also, I got to work on a custom 53 series built for CBS today - 36 channels and routing modules I've never seen before.  Fun stuff!  BTW, all of their modules were recapped with radial Nichicons as well...

I wish ... We don't have the same kind of affordable real estate here in England any more that you have in the US. When I bought the last one I had paid recording work coming out of my ears. Eight years later I sold it due to rising commercial rent and falling demand. It was quite a wrench but I am thankful that I got out when I did. I don't think I will ever make that kind of investment again, even if I had room in my house for such a beast.

The CBS desk does sound like fun. Mine was built originally for Channel 4 television (UK). 24/4/2 with 4 auxes and 2 comp/lims (it had had 4 originally but came to me with 2 empty slots). Producer desk on the end with patchbay. Sweet sound. I miss it a lot. I don't miss the pressure to make rent.  :)
