yes but the Tr@nsient Designer are more a enveloppe shaper
than a compressor, is a creative tool for studio,
and very usefull for live music .

Francois.

I really want to make some TDZzzzz for my 51x rack, but do we have here any
legal issues if these PCB's will become available for people?

BTW. I started to work on 1176 in 500 format right at the moment I ordered my 51X rack,
but it becomes too small for front panel controls, if vu-meter used, here it stopped.
I have to check what happens if LM3916 (led driver with
"analog" vu-meter scale) used, seems this is the only option.

Hehe... It will be really SQUEEZZZZED!
I checked the availability of concentric ganged pots...only special order.
It is possible to fit 3 band of Sontec EQ in 500 format, but it comes out SQUEZZED as well...
Personally dislike it :)

So...what about TDZzzzzzz?

What "yes"?
:)
I asked what happens with legal issues, really, don't want second....ahhemm....you know,
this was about a year ago, and it was something EMI-related ;) :)

I'm thinking that sweepable phase correction would be an awesome addition to the tdzzzzzzzz. Especially with percussion it could make for a nice hybridized module, no?

EDIT: Also, a tapped hole for a screw-on cupholder. And I'm still waiting for a module with an outlet for a phone charger.  ;)

as far as I remember there are only problems with:
1- trade marks (so starting to call it "envelope shaper" or whatever as opposed to tranzzzzient dezzzzzzigner would be a first step)
2- art work (simple - do not copy enclosure design or company logos, why people are doing that in the first place is a mystery to me)
3- AFAIK there is no patent on the circuit itself (googling revealed that there is one on the vit@lizer, however)

keeping this in mind i don't think there will be a problem as long as a common sense is used.

oh, and "plus 1" on the phase control, this would be great on its own but also often used on the same sort of material as envelope shaping (i.e. multi-mic drum recordings)

ETA: if you're really fast you could make a fortune with a vuvuzela notch filter right now  ;D

A few days ago I had my hands on the Drawmer DS501 Gate. It has a TD-stylee control, called Peak Punch, which is a very usable feature. Interesting about it is that you can dial in the frequency you want to highlight with your transient boost. I´d seriously go for a TD with these enhanced controls, though I already own an original TD. Adding more controls to a given circuit should be enough to avoid any legal issues.

For a 1176-500 you can find very small VU meters here: http://www.anders.co.uk/meters_products.asp?prodFamID=1151 , sold through farnell or RS

That'd be wicked...

My choice would be an enhanced TD as well. I'm not familiar with legal stuff though. But a few TDz would also be the "go" for me to join the 51X alliance (as a PP member I should do that anyway !).

an active Re-amper...
Could be very, very cool.
As a matter of fact, maybe this will be something cool for me to design, as a first project... To be able to contribute something to our community.
Unfortunately I don't have got the time for it the next couple of months....
But this could be something great.....
I already know what elements I'd use to build it. It would also save me a lot of space in my racks, since I use only elements of 3 different 19" units hahaha !

Well... all in all I'd prefer to build a 51x rack with small handy tools like TD's, phase alignmentstuff, re-amper, a couple of steep HP/LP filters to accompany compressors/gates....

Transient designer's are for nancy boys. Did Andy John's need a Transient designer?

All this talk about transient designer's with all this home renovation going on...

edit: hope i didn't offend anyone! :) I'm just joking guys...

No, he had Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts and John Bonham.  ;D

Hitting tape gives drums that smack.

Unfortunately, no budgets for tape anymore. :(

Hmph. I never thought of it that way. Those guys are awesome transient designers.
Although, i wouldn't say it to their face.

TD with no 'extras' please. pure and simple, envelope is everything. Or, have the 'extras' so that they can be cut out. The 'Grange' itself was quite the contributor to Bonzo's envelope!.  ;)
