Official C12 Clone - Build and Support Thread

If you remember from a couple posts ago, the frequency response of each mic was nearly the same. Well, I got the C12 capsule from Mic & Mod, and did the test again. Spoken word, so the range is limited to my voice. Regardless, I think the result is interesting.
Like before, the green mic is still the 460 with the (almost full) mini-mod.

The purple mic is now loaded with the C12 capsule from Mic & Mod.

The purple mic definitely rolls off sooner up top in both graphs, so some part of it is definitely the circuit. BUT, it appears that the C12 capsule pushes that roll-off even harder. The rumble at the bottom is ambient noise, but the C12 capsule does grab more of it. I'm going to call this purple C12 build finished and move on to the next mic build. I've got this left over 32mm capsule that needs a home, and I've got just about everything needed to give it one :cool: .
 
Hi! I have Matador's power supply pcb v1.5a-2024. My question is regarding position c10. On the pcb is the place for the small capacitor but according to the schematic, and what I have left; is the bigger one. My question is; do I try to fit this bigger capacitor on the pcb board position c10 or I leave it empty..Thanks in advance for your help...

Apologies for the confusion. This is due to a BOM change between 1.4 and 1.5(a).







The original board was designed to be configurable between a passive heater supply (e.g. simple RC filtering), and an active heater supply (the LM317). After all of the hundreds of people that use the psu, exactly zero of them ever wanted to use a passive heater supply. :)







Since it took up so much of the board space, I reduced the final capacitor from 4700uF (intended for the passive supply), to a 10uF/25V. However for an active supply, this capacitance isn't needed as the heater load is essentially constant current, and the datasheet recommends an output capacitor "to improve transient response":















In short, you can just leave it out.

HI! What are the current options when it comes to c12 mic body and head basket? I have been trying to get in touch with studio 939 but without success. On there web page, the mic body is sold out. Do you guys know or can suggest some other options for the mic body (c12) which would fit matador pcb?
 
Thanks! I am aware of this option but it seems that mic's head basket is to small to acommodate c12 capsule (34mm) and also the Matador pcb won't fit..So I wouldn't consider it as the most handy option..
I made my C12 using a real akg C12 body & I got matadors (I think) pcb to fit into it with a bit of work.
 
HI! I know that my question may seem stupid but I am finishing my power supply unit and now I have to connect 7 pin xlr wires to pcb. Can somebody help me and check whether this is the correct diagram. Thanks a lot in advance!

The OPR C12 capsule (32.7mm / 8.9mm wide with membranring screws) fits exactly into this China C12 body basket. The Beesneez C12 capsule (34.1mm / 12mm wide with membranring screws) does not fit. No chance. The really large Moby V2545 Siemens SM204/C23 transformer fits also perfectly into the tube of the china mic when placed exactly. But Matadors board doesn't fit. It's much too big.

Great work! Thanks for sharing your experience! Since I already have Matador pcb, it seems that currently the only available option might be the Mic&Mod c12 body. According to pictures, it might be the same size as Alctron Ht11a. I will have to check it further..

I would ask once again just for confirmation/explanation...Basically I am not sure for xlr pin 7 which is ground. I would appriciate if somebody can confirm that this wire from xlr pin7 goes to B- on pcb.
The older revision of PSU pcb had the "ground" mark on the slot but the newer revision doesn't..Since, I have only B- slot empty after connecting other wires, I suppose that pin7 wire goes there but I am not sure..

Normally p[in 1 is ground on an XLR plug. If you look at the female socket you will notice that pin 1 is slightly forward compared to the other pins so that it makes connection before the other pins. This is what you want with an earth connection ....
 
And I have to connect this wires here..So, I am not shure whether pin 7 goes to B-? All other pins are clear..
