Gonna maybe build one, been spending time on the forum and you guys love em. Is there a pre that is is comparable to, just so that i can decide if its the one for me. I have a drawmer 1960, i like the pre on that, will the green be better. I know alot of this is down to opinion but hey if a majority says the same thing then well, I'll have one.
Also i say everyone is up for better caps etc, now is that a reliable or sound quality reason and do super mega expensive caps (the best dosh can buy) get justified in the sound or is rule of thumb simply dont buy cheap but dont go nuts.

There is a massive army surplus store here with big old valve radio's and electronics, do you reckon they could be worth ripping the guts out of or perhaps i should buy new.
AND UK GUYS DONT KNOW IF YOU KNOW BUT www.rs-components.co.uk HAVE JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING DIY BUILDERS COULD WANT, i'm sure you already know but i want ti try and give a little of what i know when i ask a question (its all about back scratching)
cheers

Hey Dean,

The Green is a clean, honest sounding pre. Pre?s I?ve heard that sound
similar include the Focurite Green Range and SSL9K having seen the schemo for
Amek CIB I would think to would be similar as well.

RE the caps, generally more expensive name brand caps are more reliable than
?el cheapo? brand, but sonically I have noticed a difference, esp. in the
poly caps, as I have mentioned before. On my first proto pre I used ST poly
caps and one a second one I used WIMA?s, the WIMA?s def have a brighter more
open high end.

I use RS to order components, as do a lot of guys. I must say in my
experience there service has always been outstanding.

Hope that answers some of your questions, best wishes with the Green and
welcome to the world of DIY... It is addictive... So beware.

Cheers

Matt

Neither the Green nor the 9000 are very different from the mic pre in the Drawmer1960 - but they will be different flavour:
