DONE

I finished installing the crossfader today. That completes the design concept I came up with. It only took fourteen years!

Can you tell us a bit more about your crossfader design?

In the process of populating my MTC boards (2x IGFO, MS2, EEQ + 3/4x Insert switcher). Although I don't really master music for others than myself, I can't wait to use this as a master bus processor. Just need a cool analog brickwall limiter design I can use at the end of the chain! Although running hot into my H8000 seems to clip in a very pleasing way (compared to my main SSL converters).

The crossfader uses SSM2402 FET switches to switch between three positions. A, B or xfade. The crossfader is a VCA. I commissioned this design quite a few years ago. The SSM2402’s sound good but I’m not happy with the crossfader. I have another designer doing V2 which will be totally different.

Cool!

I was daydreaming about a simple wet/dry circuit using something like the JLM Dingo using the vca's for the gain/fading... could be a nice solution with some nice discrete opamps like the APP992 to include in outboard dynamics processors.

On another note, I'm racking up my finished "interpolating scanner" (based on J.H. Haible design) which is a curious spin on the crossfader idea; rather than fading between two channels, it can "scan", or fade, many (9 in my case) channels with cv control. Ofcourse meant for creative uses and not mastering (duh) but a cool concept nonetheless.
