Yes, Truespace would also be a good bang for the buck.It´s $600 and Cinema 4D is $900. I´ve never used it myself but have heard/read about 4D as a very intuitive and easy to learn program.
Maybe I exaggerated a bit about the time needed to learn how to create basic stuff like panels and knobs etc. If you invest 10-15 hours to get your head around the modelling tools and basic workflow, I think you can model the complete scene I posted in 10-15 minutes. And then of course you will save individual objects like connectors, knobs etc to reuse in other scenes.
With basic shapes like this, modelling takes maybe only 10% of the time. The rest is tweaking materials/maps, lights, cameras, render-engine settings etc.
Many of the apps have free 30-day trial versions. Maybe you should download and give it a try It´s great fun too!
