I just ordered 4 Soliloqueen K87’s V2’s. I’m really excited. Got boards for 2x D-87’s and 2x D-67’s. Also got tested NOS Tele EF86’s for the D-67’s. It’s going to be a good 2024.
I just finished building 2 X D-EF47’s and 2 X D-67’s (also with NOS EF-86’s) … and I am patiently (as patiently as possible) awaiting the arrival of my 2 X flat k47’s and 2 X flat k87’s …

The excitement of being able to finish Dan’s tube mics with Ari’s capsules is palpable !!!

I agree, EarthTone, it’s going to be a GREAT 2024 !!

Dear Soliloqueen

I am interested in your flat 47 capsule. Do you run the Arianne Audio website? On there they are on pre-order. Any time frame as to when they will be in stock?

Welcome to GroupDIY! That info is all in this thread around one or two pages back at the most. In this case, please read post #1,182 of this thread which directly answers your question. Generally updates about the Arienne Audio capsules can be found easily in the recent postings of this thread, for future reference.

Beautiful looking builds! The D67 looks like a challenge to build. I am glad there is that step by step pictorial guide for the D67 linked non Dany’s site. I am saving those builds for last! So far my m49 and 47fet mics all work great so hopefully I can build the D67’s as nicely as you have as well. Congrats. Please update us on how they sound when you finish yours! I am dreaming of when I can try mine on drum overheads. Can’t wait.

They sound PHENOMENAL as drum overheads!IMG_1183.JPG

Thank you, EarthTone, for your kind comments !

I have only used one of the D-67’s for recording a male vocal … and it performed precisely as the vintage Neumann U67’s we used frequently for just about ANYTHING back in the old days in Los Angeles !

Dan (poctop) has captured that lovely upfront, compressed but warm U67 character in his D-67 clones …

As Khron noted it is a bit of a dog’s breakfast “mix” of PCB and point to point … but it was easy to follow and I understand Dan’s reasoning behind the changes …

Like egroys … eventually they will spend some quality time as drum overheads over my Pearl Master Customs and I know I will love them in that capacity, too !

I am convinced that both Dan’s
D-EF47’s and D-67’s will benefit from Ari’s flat k47’s and K87’s (respectively) when they finally arrive … and I am getting antsy for them !

My only challenge has been to get the 48V RS reed relay used for pattern switching in the D-EF47’s to play nice with the Matador Universal Tube PSU …

I have proper Pattern voltages coming from the Universal PSU (OV in Omni to full scale in Figure 8) until I connect it to the EF47’s … then it drops to O - 2V depending on the position of the PSU 9 position Pattern switch ???

I only want Cardiod (0V … which is the default unenergized status of the reed relay) and Omni … so I am going to remove the 9 position Pattern switch and replace it with a 2 position version … once I have resolved the interface issue with the EF47’s …

Definitely a weird one !

Worst case … I will live with them as Cardiod only … but I definitely would prefer them to function as designed !

Apologies for taking us a bit off topic !

Best Regards !

I'm gearing up to build a U87 following Michael Fuchs' guide, but I'm contemplating a twist—swapping the K87 for an Adrienne Audio K47. My aim is to achieve a rounder tone, especially for string recordings.

Has anyone here experimented with this combination? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Your insights would be immensely helpful as I navigate this build.

You'll probably wanna skip the whole feedback network (that cuts the low-lows as well as the high frequencies). Which means you end up with a K84-like circuit - FET847 anyone?

Hi Sebass,
If you don't necessarily need a bit of transformer character, then it's cheaper and faster to build a Schoeps circuit, flat, or use an apex 435-style donor microphone in which you only change the capsule. A transformer for U87 or 847 costs as much as a whole cheap microphone.

Sebass,
I bought a used t.bone SC-400 for 20 euros and installed a cheap Chinese k47-style capsule (received among others 7...8 different capsules from a friend for whom I modded several microphones with excellent results).
Sounds great! Round and clean! Although the headbasket is small and does not have the necessary shape for the U47.
I saw you are from Germany, you can get a new one from Thom... or from ebay kleinanzeigen.
I assure you that with an Arienne k47 capsule it will sound absolutely magical on the strings! And on anything!✨

That's what I'm building at the moment.
Just waiting for the flat K47 to complete the mic. I am using a U47 fet style body and the Micparts KM84 circuit with a Moby BV107 tranformer. Should sound awesome.

That’s the T-84 circuit, right? I plan to build something similar with one of the Flat K47 capsules I have ordered. Did you order the kit without one of the Micparts transformers? Is that possible? I’d prefer to combine the Flat K47 with the Moby transformer, too.

Yes, it's the T-84-55 circuit kit I bought. It was some two years ago and I had something else planned but didn't follow through with that project. There should still be an "without transformer" option in the mic parts shop.
I'm very interested in how the mic will sound next to my TLM170. - Not that I expect they will be sounding alike.

Customs is holding up the flat k47 a bit. We are in final assembly on the k87 and should be done in a week.
Since I was getting a ton of brand new film sputtered at the lab anyway and had some time before the metal shop was done with the back plates I had custom masks made so that the metalized portion of the diaphragm is the correct size compared to the original capsule. This probably doesn't make a huge difference but there's no reason not to increase accuracy if I can get away with it!

@soliloqueen, my I ask if you assemble these in the US? (I don't care if the CNC machining takes part in China or anywhere)
Are these capsules US made, and/or tensioned, and/or measured?
Also, may I ask where they are QC-d?
I know they are good, just making sure it's not some wholesale shipped stuff from overseas... (before ordering, also to overseas - Europe :))

Thanks in advance!

Making sure because? It's not enough they are good? Have you read the whole thread including the first post here? "US made" makes things somehow better, because k67 origin is US, and best capsules come from US?

Some of the QC has been done by me in Norway, should i apologize for not being based the US, do i count as "overseas"? Here in Norway and Europe in general given word still counts as well. Reference to your earlier post.
