SSL, 1176 or RNC? best for what?

Ok this isn't quite a DIY question but since I have yet to finish any of my DIY as of late I will ask and see what my money should be spent to finish first!

I have 2 ssl and 2 1176 projects underway but i'll need more compression than that eventually. the SSLs are already going to the busses. Now i need channel compression. would anyone suggest one (SSL, RNC or 1176, any others, acp88?) over the other for general channel compression? I know it's a taste and fit issue but I'm going to ramp up usage soon and will need to plan finances! who doesn't eh?

We make this gear because we want to record.
We use processors like these to solve problems and to create a tone or sound that we are after.

first identify why you need a processor then chose one that suits.

You are already heading for a couple of SSL so you will have the opportunity to use one as a single channel device and so you will get the feel of it ... then decide.

An RNC is so cheap that you may as well have one. Even if it just to see what all the fuss was about. Do some DIY and rack it up with the power supply and balance the I/O if you like

The 1176 in any form is something you should also have at least one of.

Same to for an opto compressor.

Take things slow, do your research. Complete these early project first before moving on to more.

is there any instructions (and so forth) for building a ACP88 out there, or a RNC?!

I think it would be cheaper just to buy a RNC. Also, the ACP88 in my opinion is not a very good compressor. I'd take Four RNC's over it any day...

What is it that makes the RNC so great? (I haven't tryed it my self) Guess you guys would know because of you're understanding of the RNC's inside :grin: !?

now I was reading in another thread about the Forssell opto and previously about the WHAT compressors. Not having used an opto before, I don't know what to expect before i build it. do they generally sound good on most everything or just things like bass?

I plan on building a few of each shortly so I guess I'll see!
