Looking for schematics / layouts for sl552,  sl542 modules.
Also what are the pcb slide guide rails called that these 5000 series modules fit into? Anyone have any spare..

Think i've found the correct multi pin connectors. Please correct me if i've got i wrong.

thanks paulo

Hi Paul,

IIRC, for the 552 you'll need the 96 pin DIN41612's. The 542's will do with a 64 pin.

The 542 has the same pinout as the 502 eq. drop me an email for the 552 docs. The plastic guiderails will be available from a forummember soon (probably this upcoming weekend already). He has the buscards for 552's and eq/dyn cards as well (dyn/eq buscards are the 502/510/520/522/542 modules), makes racking easier, but, they're only available for 2 or 4 cassettes.

greetings,

Paul

would be interested too as I have a load of 502's and 505's that I want to get happening.

Could you send me those docs?
I can't seem to access you email, mine is: pholz (at) iinet . net . au

Also, any idea if anyone can supply the SIL SSL amplifier chips, the little white coated ones in most of the 5000 series stuff, I think I may be missing one.

hi peat,

IIRC , 502 docs are in the gdiy gmail account, check the meta. 505's.... I'll upload the docs later (today or tomorrow), along with the 552 stuff.

The hybrid chips : 85501, 85502, and 85504's are the ones you really need. The others are for TR/IR which you won't use for standalone racking. The 4's aren't socketed, so it's unlikely that that one is missing. But the forummember will have all kinds of 5K parts available pretty soon. (guiderails, pots, vca's, hybrids, and SL502, 503, 505, 506, 507, 510, 520, 521, 527, 544, 546, 550, 551, 552, 553, 555, 557,  574, 575, 578, 581, 594 modules....

Hi I am Magnet the forum member that Helterbelter is speaking of. I do have all of the SSL 5000 series parts you require. I'm just sorting out some final details. Thank you Helterbelter for all of your assistance, your expertise as a tech and as an SSL 5000 expert has been invaluble.

Feel free to message me on this forum.

Speaking of 552's..... : I haven't shown this here earlier.

It's a racked SL552 Independant Main Outputmodule, which is a summing amp that's entirely the same as the mainbus summingamp. I built it about 3 years ago for fun, but is sounds really awesome. 12 stereo inputs via SubD's, a stereo balanced insert (post summingstage, prefader), VCA masterfader, stereo balanced output. The VCA dc can be controlled by the seperate fader, or by the pot located on the front. The enclosure is of a 4000 series Computer Bypass Unit, but I found the name pretty convenient for a summing box, hahaha !

I sold it after I've finished it to a mixing engineer in France. He told me he can't do without anymore.... (now that's a compliment, right ?). In case I wouldn't have my SSL console, I'd build another 552 unit, for otb summing.

Here are the pics :

I emailed the 542 docs to the gdiy account.

Thanks again,

Just looking through the gmail account now, can see the 502 schematics, can't see the 505's
Any chance you could put them in there?

I will be running the 502 unbalanced and putting them on the insert point of the 505.
can't seem to decipher the pinouts from those schematics as far as i/o and power is concerned.

The hybrid chip I am missing is the 85502, anyone have any of these?

Thanks!!!

I have all the SSL 5000 series parts you require available right now.
Please feel free to contact me here with a list of parts that you desire.

Magnet (et al),
I recently fell onto a batch of SSL 502 cards for a University I work for. I was hoping to create a project for our audio shop students that would involve building a few racks for these cards. I've done alot of browsing on the net but I'm still missing some vital details to get this thing going. Rather than reinvent the wheel (I will if I have to of course) I was hoping to get guidance on the following from those who have done it before me.

1. 8(+) channel 5RU and 2 channel 1 RU metalwork. Surely someone has constructed a metal chassis before? This would imply that there are measurements/diagrams available for depth of cage/cage blueprints and hole positions for the 64pin Harting connectors. I'm not above paying for documentation if such a thing exists. I'd rather do this from scratch than purchase a prebuilt chassis.

2. I have heard a host of people discuss the pro's and cons of inexpensive < $200 ready to build 18V & 24V PSU's. Apparently DIY PSU kits out there do exist but I'm uncertain what to look for or where to buy. Any suggestions?

3. Parts sourcing? If one guy had what we needed versus buying a bunch of random parts from Digikey I would prefer that since there is a much less likely chance I would end up with the wrong parts. Anyone that does this?

4. Difficulty? I personally used to wire commercial 1073 Neve racks but everything was in front of me (parts and wiring schematics) so I didn't need to do any research or purchasing.  It was easy. This is different because I don't have a prototype to copy. I don't mind pushing myself and definitely want to push the students that otherwise would not get such an experience in build and troubleshooting.  How doable is this for a college kid with oversight?

Anyone care to comment on this quest?
