Hey there,

All this political crap has me pretty bummed, but there's nothing like a soldering iron to take your mind of things.

Got these from Scenaria yesterday, here's the progress today:

the only problem I'm havin is gettin the solder to adhere to the pins on the bottom. Don't know if my iron isn't hot enough, or......?

That's an NOS can you have there. Even UA can't get those. The pins need to be heated for a prettylong time to burn off all the crud from the last forty years. Solder it upside down so that the solder can flow into the holes. You will know when you get it hot enough as the solder will begin to wick into the hole.

cool, I'm doin the second one now, I'll try that, and probably go back and redo the first one =)

you can use solder wick, or just wipe off the excess with a soldering iron.
a little solder on the outside of the pin is no big deal. be careful of the el panel when soldering. i usually solder the board to the can first, then attach the el panel.

yup, I saw that ( after I had them all together). Was pretty carefull. They're both done now.

I found it easier to mount the wires to the board, and then push wires down through the hole, than to do the pins first, and mount the wire to the board.

Thanks for your work on these. You and Scenaria just made it very easy to get this together.

yes yes... be gentle with the EL's :) dont forget the cap that goes in there too! should be in the bag with the T4's :)

yup yup, didn't post a pic of the back, but the caps on there. took me a minute to figure out where to attatch pin 1 of the octal ( it get's soldered to pin2's wire)

Had to trim the foil down a bit in order to fit it through the hole to get it on the pcb side, but yes, I treated the EL with TLC ( considering the wait on delivery time, I wouldn't want to have to order more  )

couldnt you use an octal socket for those and just plug it in like you would a tube? Seems like that would be the way to go. Those sockets can cost more than $1 or $2.

they have octal sockets :) same as any other la2... he's wiring up the T4b octal can..

and yea... those damn el's took forever... put the order in back in June and didnt get them until the 2nd week of october.. rediculous!
