TRS and chassis ground

Hi,

I'm building the Gyraf SSL compressor. And I have a question about chassis ground.

Normally, I use XLR panel connectors for my builds and I use the pin 1 convention ( pin 1 always go to chassis ). But in this case I prefer using a TRS panel connectors, because they are much easy to mount. So, I can use TRS connectors ( non insulated ) and leave the S directly to chassis? I think this is obvious, but I'm a bit confused now... sorry.
