U87, figure 8 is dead

One must now wonder if that is indeed the stock capsule that microphone came with... Or has it been "upgraded" at some point?
 
In the picture it appears the washers and connector ends of the two plate wires seem to be touching. Need a continuity check between plates with wires attached? Also is the diaphram shorted to the right plate?

Neverminding that the last activity in this thread was over a year ago, but as the picture in post #22 clearly shows, the shim between the two backplates is clearly brass, so the existence of electrical contact between them is beyond any shadow of a doubt.

PS: What's "diaphragm shorted to the right plate", and why should it be?
