I found this cool store today with heaps of cheap and old electronics stuff. The place was packed with all sorts of goodies (I got 3 switches for the price of one at my usual store) :green:

They had a wall of all valves. Mullard, RCA, Telefunken, Phillips etc. They all had their orgional boxes and stuff, but I didn't recognise any of the number codes on them. :?: Maybe the're from old radio's............
I would expect that they've all been used, and who knows how long for, but they were pretty cheap.

Anyway, I had a bit of a search on the net for these but it didn't really clarify their uses to me. Sorry, no pics. Didn't have a camera with me.
The numbers i wrote down were
ECH200 (telefunken i think)
PCH200 (mullard i think)
GE03-10 (phillips?)
6C56
6GW6
6JH6
1X2C/1BX2
6HG8/ECF86
EL95

These number mean nothing to me, but then again my knowledge is mainly due to re-valving my guitar amp at that's it, so I only really know the common ones like 12ax7,6l6,el34,el84 etc etc.

Are these weird numbered ones useful for much?
Also where can I find something that explains the different types of valves and their uses. The internet mainly resulted in on-line shops just trying to sell the damn things.

Also found some phillips mkt orange caps there too. How do these things rate? Worth the cheap price? Good for Audio paths? or better used in non-audio paths? I know that they're polyester. Any thoughts?

regards,

Steve

Steve, the various "1xx" and "6xxx" tubes you listed were primarily intended for appllications in television sets, and follow the typical American numbering system. The first digit(s) represent the filament voltage.

Here are some "tube manual" links I have saved as Bookmarks:

http://frank.pocnet.net/

http://www.nj7p.org/Tube.php

tdsl.duncanamps.com searches those three sites and many more all at once. Generally I just stick with NJ7P, nice and quick and all HTML, but does not have the odd tubes though.
