Hello,
Mainly interested in the effect on sound as tantalum coupling caps are failing in the signal path. I have a number of 1980s screw-on electret capsules using tants to block the +6vdc powering at the capsule head and they are very hard to get to.
Less treble? Less Bass? Less gain? More hiss? To varying degrees half the capsules exhibit these issues. The other half sound fine and are reasonably matched to one other characteristically, extended heated moisture removal changed not a thing for the suspect ones.
What is the typical sound of tantalums going bad in the signal path as used in mics gone by?
Regards,
Chris
