I'm wishing to build a Valve microphone pre-amp, (doesn't have to be valve, as long as it sounds real good.)

What circuits do you guys recommend?

I'm hoping to find a circuit that doesn't have difficult to find and expensive parts (if possible.)

I'm also not opposed to microphone pre-amp kits, provided they aren't really expensive.

Thanks for your help.

Yours Sincerely

Mark Abbott.

greenpre is a great start from what i read. swing peterc a line see if he has boards then find ptown cuase he has the parts kits and you will be on your way.

Yeah the Green Pre or SSL 9K preamp are both good places to start...

Both are transformless designs which makes them a cheaper yet fantastic sounding project.

ptownkid is selling green pre kits and gustav is selling ssl 9k pcbs...

The .:meta-meta:. thread which is linked directly below the "search" function above is a good place to start for checking out projects :thumb:

There is the G9 valve preamp, but its full of iron and not cheap in comparison to the above mentioned preamps...

How many of you own a kick ass pre and it's the only one in whole wide world.....hmmmm?

yeah
I guess I've been doin this for more than a few years now ....

yeah
and I'm not the only one around here that has done a few things in the past

and not just with audio

we have Car Builders and Sewing Machine makers and Wind Generation stuff and much, much more
and lots of very capable cool people doing many of there own cool projects.

Analag, I just bought one of your old boxes off of ebay and it rocks, man!
Why don't you market this stuff? You could be a bazillionaire!

This is "valve" and about as simple as a low-distortion tube preamp gets. You can use any decent input transformer. The 12AV7 tube is no longer made, but they're still cheap and readily available.

Thanks for the assistance. I have been on holidays since posting that message and I will have a few more questions to ask tomorrow about the addresses of the circuits and the guys who make the kits.

Again thanks so much for all your help.

Yours Sincerely

$350 for the SSL 9K?? i don't think I have over $60 per channel tied up in mine??? Great sounding pre though. Working on the API now though. Guess I need to go ahead and order the parts to finish....

i second NYD's one bottle pre, and also CJ's one bottle preamp. I am building both right now and should be using them within a couple of weeks, i'll let you know how they sound. as for the ssl9k.. i have a quad channel version and it cost me around 40$ per channel. maybe 250$ all together..
