Which SSL VCAs are these?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7346518257

they look like they have the same footprint as a 202

might be useful

I see them some time ago too (another auction). Id like to adquire some of them to try them in my two SSL clones but they dont ship or sell them out of US
These VCAs would be the ones used in original circuits wich clone is based in? The SSL clone one assumes that it is based on a SSL4000E bus compressor, isnt it?

so does anyone knwo if these are 202s or are they some other VCA

do we think the would be compatible with the GSSLs?

202X's.

those are 82E13's. Buy the faders as well and make a console!

remove them carefully and they are highly GSSL compatible.

they're 8 x 2151's in parallel with a 5534 and some nicely matched resistors.

The VCAs originally used in the SSL were discrete modules made by dbx, but eventually dbx switched to SIP package ICs (2150s) and the modules were built using eight SIPs in parallel to lower the distortion. Then dbx sold the technology to THAT corp, who continued to improve it to the point where today you really don't need to parallel the 2181's in order to get low distortion. I think SSL continues to use parallel VCAs perhaps in order to justify the price tag. Somehow the metal cans increase the perceived value.
