A friend of mine was going to look at one
and wanted to know , but come to think of it
i know of one that's not working as well

Anywhere between 1k5 and 2k is probably fair.

Capsule is about a $900 part if it's shot.

Here's one that sold recently on Ebay for just over 2K. With a brand new replacement capsule.

The 1 u87 I own I got for 500 dollars. It was said to cut in and out. Turns out it was a cold solder joint. If u ask me 1k to 1.5k is fair offer. Anything more is not worth it and anything lower is a bounus for the buyer. But that's if condition is unknown. 
 
Yeah it's got that recogonition value ,
what would anybody say sounds similar ?
[ i own a pair of u89's , i'm happy with those ]
