hello,
A local is selling this microphone and I was wondering if any of you could identify what type it was from the picture. I know it's not much to go on.
all he says in the ad is:
"OLD STYLE HAS BEEN IN GARAGE FOR YEARS  CLAMPS ON WITH C CLANP AND HAS ADJUSTABLE  GOOSENECK"

it almost looks like an rca plug.

thanks,
mike

Aiwa perhaps?

Or similar asian 60s rca copy.

wow eskimo!
that's swift and accurate work.
he wants 25 dollars for it. I'm going to check it out.

If that's an Aiwa m-18, it's a crystal mic, and not a ribbon.
But the stripes are further apart, and the mic seems taller, might be a crown perhaps?

yup, definately a crown, look at the fitting, screw ring, and then a flat part with two scews.

Not worth much if it's not a ribbon.
These were either single or dual crystal or dynamic, based on the manufacturer and model.
Go here and scroll down to the bottom of the page:  http://www.k-bay106.com/wanted.htm
Many of these sold for under $15 when they were new.
They were mostly intended for use with low end tape recorders and pa systems.
They're pretty much omni mics, except for the ribbons, which did cost a lot more but still under $100 when they were new.
Some are very tiny.
They don't sound all that good either and the crystal element (if that's what's inside) probably already has failed.
