Thanks, but please don't spend too much time on it looking for it. I became curious to this one after just having heard the Earthworks-demo-CD (not sure about what to think about that one though).

regards,

Peter

what did you think of the cd? i LOVED the overheads, of course they sound nice, very $$ SD's. but that kick mic :? whats up with that. a 110$ d112 put it to shame. and a 112 with a LD a few feet back and mixed in.....pfffff. not even close.

Still not sure what to think. First of all, nice of them they send this info&CD out, free and it arrived very quick.
I think the approach of all clean, no EQ & processing is of course good, but maybe a comparison with both all 'processed' would have been interesting as well. That's harder of course, the result could go in all directions, but it'd perhaps give an idea on how much the different source material could differ in the end result.

I think the Earthworks-set gave a better impression of the room but as (I believe) Soundguy said, you'd better have a good room, otherwise it'll show up.
The kick was indeed underwhelming. but I must say that I'm not too fond of of the D112 sounds either. (but who am I to say that with my limited experience) Too bad the D112 pushed the D12 away, and the '12 looks way cooler as well

Bye,

Peter
anyone try these besides me??
I'll try them as soon as I find someone who can make the pcb's for me...

What's the best way to get the top of these behringer mic's without damaging it too much? Is there a way to dissolve the glue?

Another newbie question about the behringer mods:

Wouldn't these benefit from some smaller mkp caps paralel with the 4 elco's? Would there be room for this on the trace side of the pcb?

the easy way I got them off was to heat slightly with a heat gun. not too close or too much, just enough to get the glue to get tacky again. I doubt you'll see much difference in such a setup with poly caps paralleled. not much space left in the housing either.. but you can try and let us know!

Since i wasn't going to use the behringer capsule I just held the mic over a gas-flame. Everything came right off.

I'll let you know if I find a way to mount some extra caps on there and if it sounds any better. But there are some other projects i need to finish before i can justify buying all the pcb-making equipment to myself

Hi. One of my standard ECM's is producing a bursting , kinda white noise. Not extremely loud, mic still works
Pops in and out every second or so.
Any idea what could cause that.?
caps ?, transistors?, capsule ?

Andre, I also had this problem. Replacing filter electrolytic capacitor of the capsule with bigger value took care of it. I think I put 47mf/16V, IIRC.

I'm just catching onto this thread now. Does anyone have complete build instructions for the ECM8000 mods? Like the schematic, parts list, pcb layout, etc? I've tried to run through the thread but I kept getting lost. Maybe its over my head, I usually just make guitar pedals... Any help on finding consolidated instructions would be very appreciated! Thanks,

Ben

page two of this thread has a number of layout files and a schematic. that is the new circuit. In all honesty you don't want to be running jumper wires all over the place, it's easier to build a new board and stuff it properly. your end result will be much better. also, do the linkwitz mod on the capsule, thta is a MUST.

I saw those but I couldn't read the layout graphic values, because they seemed to overlap. I can try and just work backwards from the schematic though. Also with the linkwitz mod, do you want to do the two wire version on the second graphic? The one where you cut the trace on 2 and connect 1 and 3? Sorry for the newb questions, just never done a mic mod before but this one looks great. I am also going to try the Royer mod on a MXL 2001. Thanks for you help.

Ben

If you look at the schematic you see three leads coming from the capsule so you need the three wire linkwitz mod for this.

I'm still have Svart's pcb files here: http://www.mendelt.nl/ecm8k_svart/

There are no real build instructions for this mod. But if you ask nicely maybe we'll help

I never did this mod myself. I just put a linkwitz modded panasonic capsule in the mic and cut out the first transistor. I never got around to making the pcb's for the full mod.

On scodiddly's site (http://scotthelmke.com/ ) there's another nice design (http://scotthelmke.com/phantom-power-2.jpg) for mic's with these kinds of capsules. I built one on perfboard to use as a boundary mic.

Andre, I also had this problem. Replacing filter electrolytic capacitor of the capsule with bigger value took care of it. I think I put 47mf/16V, IIRC.

replaced both electro caps, nothing changed
what's next ? replacing the other caps as well ?

hey andre, that problem sounds like a dirty connection to me. i've had it happen a few times. does the audio come back after a loud input?
