I see it. "Daniel" has posted pretty pictures and started an interesting discussion. Even if the charge of "shill" is true, I don't think one or two posts is enough to get excited about, when we have ~100 messages a day.

I did some digging.
JZ, this is silly. Limit your self-promotion to the Black Market under one screenname.
(BTW: note to Moderators, you will soon, once again have the ability to track IPs directly, once I get a chance to install the update. Thanks.)

Personally, I would never even consider buying a mic from somebody who's shown the total lack of business ethics and respect for this group that JZ has. I also think that BLUE were trying to f*ck with him and don't deserve my business either. That's all well and good...

But for those people who could potentially buy some mics from either one of these companies, shouldn't it be about the sound? Has anyone actually heard these mics??? Either the Chinese or the Latvian ones?

Peace,
Al.

makes me wonder about posts like this also...

http://gearslutz.com/board/showthread.php3?t=37368&highlight=blue

"daniel" posted exactly the same thread as this one on gearslutz... It's disapeared though... doesn't surprise me.

For someone that was crying so endlessly for a "fair go", this is just utterly pathetic.

I'm not sure you'll find a violet mic in my studio ever, despite maybe thinking about buying one. There are plenty of other mic companies out there to choose from...

Atleast BLUE did it by the book instead of a childish "guerilla warfare" approach...

I swore to never buy anything after they released that paperweight called the BALL. Why come out with a super impedance matching mic when the actual mic itself sounds like crap. That whole thing just pissed me off and when they tried to play it off as a "unique sounding mic" I decided that's it I'm never buying any of their microphones.

And now this whole JZ thing is making him look shady. Has BLUE put out a press release or anything on this whole JZ/BLUE ordeal? I can't find anything on their web page. I searched for JZ on their message board and found nothing. I also noticed that they have no negative comments about their mics on their message boards which is hard to believe since I have never heard anyone say anything positive about the Ball except from GC employes.

Neumann is making dynamic mics, BLUE is making mics in China, Telefunken USA is rebranding Chinese mics. What the hell is going on in this world?

Home studios, prosumers, a major paradigm shift in the recording process, capitalism, CHA-CHING!

It's cheaper doncha' know?

Meanwhile RODE moved there entire production (rebranding rather) from China to Western Sydney... I think they are currently the 2nd most successful microphone manufacturer today... Sure its Prosumer... but i think they could push out from top grade mic's if they tried...

RODE has done the opposite... the moved from rebranding cheap chinese mics to fully manufacturing there own here in Sydney... It is quite a "from rags to riches" story actually... granted that Mr. Freedman did corrupt and destroy his fathers company in the process...

(I assume he isn't getting a bag of cash from some Latvian guy)

 Nope, sorry, no kickbacks involved.

I just recieved the Violet "Black Knight" - looks very good in-person! I'll post results when I've had the chance to try it out..Jakob E.
Payola?
Nope - I believe (i.e. I hope) I won it pretty fair and straight in the name-contest.

But it's fair to be on lookout for irregularities like this!

We sure don't want to end up like RO, GS, or the other forums heavily sponsored by industry. This forum is too important for that.

(still haven't had time for a through studio test - I'll update you when I get it done)

I agree very strongly. This place is a sanctuary of intelligence and is practically a virgin untouched by the corporate finger of bias compared to most audio hangouts. I say we keep is as pure and free as possible.

Thanks for your contributions Jakob. And everyone else here, too.

I heard the Latvian version of the Dragonfly, which was the mic pictured. Very clean, very very bright, like many BLUE microphones, slight metallic ring from the screen resonance, not my cup of tea but a lot of people like that sound. The one thing, though, was that this was the only microphone I've heard on a guitar amp that, when the recording was played back, sounded like the guitar amp. Not like a recording, but like the Deluxe Reverb itself was in the room. Utterly spooky. No idea if the Chinese version can do that.

Oh, and as far as payola...after I'd written a review of a BLUE mic (I think it was the Dragonfly but it might have been the Mouse) they offered me a job writing manuals for them. I turned it down. Such arrangements are pretty common in the audio-journalism world, but I find them uncomfortable, to put it mildly.

Peace,
Paul

Ive tried a few Violet mics and havnt been very impressed so far. Just quick tests on accoustic guitar but to me they just didnt have a nice top end. The black finger mic was just plain wrong...perhaps the one i tried was faulty. I wanted to like them, they look cool but maybe they should concentrate on the sound more than the metalwork.

Did not even hope for such activities...
Answering question about my real name: rodabod- is it your real name?
About capsules: sorry for my first post, but i was very angry for this situation... About Made in Chine capsules, this is only my subjective opinion. Because I have seen many made in China capsules, and this is very similar to it! In Europe - Latvia, Germany - made capsule are more accurate.

I 100% know that JZ is not designer of Blue Ball?s. Blue designers made them after Blue interrupted partnership with JZ and his factory.

I have never seen negative references in manufacturers, dealer?s homepages about their own products!!! NEVER!!!:)

Someone seen officail and legal documentation from BLUE side? ??
But... http://www.violetusa.com/Default.aspx?tabid=160

No. It seems that they are trying not to get into the discussion, only letting out indirect information from time to time..

This is the closest I've been able to find:

http://www.bluemic.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=64

and from http://www.musictechmag.co.uk/mtm/magazine/issue-27 :

Correction
In a review published in the June issue of Music Tech Magazine, we stated that ?Blue Microphones moved production to China?. We have since been informed by Blue that they in fact now manufacture their microphones in the US, with some circuit board production and capsule tuning still undertaken in Latvia. Blue states that only very few non-critical components, such as shockmounts, are sourced from China. We are sorry for any confusion caused by the article.

It seems like the Blue claims are:

- Marketing and "home of company" now U.S.
- All microphone parts still made in Latvia
- Only the shockmount made in china

I wish we could have this cleared up - but there seems to be very little real information around about this..

The only think we have established in this thread is that blue no longer commissions JZ to make there capsules... Im not going to jump to conclusions about where the mic capsules are being made... Do you have proof that they are being made in china?

Answering question about my real name: rodabod- is it your real name?
That's a question, not an answer. Rodabod's question was not if Daniel is the name in your passport. What we'd like to know is this: Are you JZ? Did you post under a different name before? Do you entertain multiple screen personalities in order to promote Violet mics? Do you work for Violet. Those are the questions. Please answer.

No, no. When you say: "New Blue dragonfly with other caspules (as I see Made in Chine)" , that's not an opinion. It is stated as a fact. There's a big difference.

So you either are or work for JZ/Violet. Which means that this statement from your initial post is pure spam/shill:
It is dangerous to buy BLUE now! These are cheap replicas! You are ready pay lot of money for chinese made capsule? From this moment I will go only stright to JZ for my mics!!!

As far as I can tell those "patents" only relate to the appearance of those microphones. Yes, they do look nice.

Listen, we don't know what happened between JZ and Blue. Your view is clearly biased. Or maybe you are JZ. So far we only heard one side, and the way you presented yours only creates distrust. Even if all you say is true, you still tried to fool us.

I got a JZ-4 direct from JZ Recording in Latvia. the mic is excellent, and as far as I can tell it is the exact same mic as the Dragonfly.

I can't speak on business ethics/postig in this forum, but it would seem if you are a manufacturer of a product it is pretty much a no, no to post anything about it (or replica products for that matter)?

Perhaps JZ employees are just trying to let some info out since there was such resistance to their entrance into the market in the beginning (most people siding with BLUE, and certainly not taking JZ's info to be true).

Regardless, I happen to know JZ is a real company, and they do make great mics. I am one of the few owners of one. Hopefully they'll get things settled with BLUE. ...and if BLUE is remarketing their original products, but passing off outsourced guts as identical to their originals then that is plain unethical in and of itself. Also, many people here have suggested using BLUE capsules for mic projects. I think where they are made now, and whether or not they are design infirngements is pretty relative.

I'd say that on this board, most people have been siding with JZ.. but our confidence is being eroded by posts like the original one. Everybody on this board is very straight forward about our intentions, and for someone to come in under the guise of a regular user is a littly shady. There is no need to deceive us..

interesting attempt to spin it, but you are wrong. these posts are unethical because the poster does not identify his affiliation. and he even assumes the air of a "satisfied customer." i quote:

if this doesnt fit the defintion of shill i dont know what does.

im sure JZ (or whatever he calls himself this week) makes great mics but thats irrelevant to the discussion of whether or not these dishonest promotional tactics are acceptable on this message board.

I find the first comments here slanderous. I think it is very unprofessional to say "It is dangerous to buy BLUE now!".

The last two comments are just shameless self-promotion.

I am very excited about violet microphones and I wish JZ all the best, but comments like these are really not necessary in my opinion.
