Finally we got replicas of my microphones in our hands...
And now we know exactly who is flasifier! He signed on microcircuit...

Future information (pictures, sounding tests, notifications) will follow in websites:
www.violetusa.com (USA)
www.violet-design.com (Europe)
www.jz-recording.lv

And also legal actions will be taken against manufacturers, designers and sellers of replicas.

Of course they use contracts
Well, from the horse's mouth, appearantly they did not use a contract-- and JZ left because he was being forced to sign one;

"Despite our efforts in last 5 years, it was impossible to sign any contract between me as designer/manufacturer and "Baltic Latvian Universal Electronics", LLC Trade Company. Manufacturing was going on verbal contact basis only."

http://www.violetusa.com/Default.aspx?tabid=152
Actually, the way I understand the statement on the webpage is that JZ wanted a contract and it was the "United States based trade company " "Baltic Latvian Universal Electronics", LLC" who refused to give him one.

@ category 5: I don't think this board uses IP-adresses to identify users. I usually use firefox, and when I open Internet Explorer, I'm not automatically logged in as "Rossi." although I have the same IP. So I suppose you would have to use the JZ's very own computer to be automatically logged in as "JZ Recording".

@ JZ: Show us proof and we're on your side - but no spam or shills, no "opinions". That's no way to treat friends.

my invitation still stands to have a representative from violet swing by and use my studio for sound samples and comparisons. Im close to NYC, perhaps close to AES.

I know a lot of people who know and love BLUE products. And quite frankly, I've been really impressed with them myself. I don't claim to be an expert but I have done some research on BLUE and they seem to be a class act. Also a good friend of mine knows Skip Wise and also will attest to BLUE being a great company that is concerned with producing the best product possible.

I've never heard of Violet or JZ before this conversation but his claims seem a little out there for me. One guy designed all those great mics and BLUE screwed him out of a contract?

I sure hope its not true but would like to know if it is. Has anybody had a chance to take apart a newer blue mic?

Auto-login is stored in a browser cookie. If you have it turned off on the board, or trash your cookies, no cookie no auto-login. If you switch browsers, you have to set a cookie in the other browser. You can move to another IP (as dialup does every time, and some DSL/cable systems force a new IP from time to time) and still be auto-login by your browser cookie.

The webserver tracks IP numbers, but in monster logs. The forum software has a feature to look-up the IP numbers behind each username, so a moderator can quickly see if two users are on the same IP. There can be very legitimate reasons for that (NYDave visits me, I log-out and let him log-in on my machine) so it is only "suggestive", not proof of anything. This feature has not always worked, but can be useful when it does.

> One guy designed all those great mics

It appears that JZ did the designs; maybe started initial production.

> and BLUE screwed him out of a contract?

Blue is the Distributor who made JK's mikes available everywhere.

I don't know what their agreement was or is. It is very common for such deals to change radically when a product grows from "speculative" to "money-maker". Since Blue is now a Big Name, and 90% of buyers wouldn't know if the guts were $0.19 chinese electrets, the key commercial contract aspect is "Who owns the tradename, shape, and color?" Probably Blue does, and when any initial contract with JZ is expired they can do anything they want with the "Blue" name, mikes, and reputation.

I do not know anything about any JZ/Blue contract. But one common contract clause is "non-competition". A designer is often asked to agree not to make a competing product, now or for several years after the contract expires. And of course, a designer may refuse to agree to such a thing. Or maybe JZ wished to keep production near his home, and Blue didn't. "Screwed" is always relative; it might be better to say they didn't agree on the same terms.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there was just a fundamental disagreement over where the product line should go. Blue's burgeoning line of ball-shaped novelty mics was almost certainly a marketing decision, to have a home-studio affordable mic with a distinctive appearance. By contrast, the JZ/Violet pages contain a really interesting array of higher-end experiments in mic design.

Our company will be in the AES. In which studio you are working? We are seriously considering about your invitation...

Ehh, Dave, this may be the perfect time for me to visit your place. Let's say JZ comes over to your place, and Gus and I come in for a visit? We could have three (or more ?) lab members all check out the stuff at once.

That is a fantastic idea, and would put to rest any questions about the sound/build quality of JZ's stuff.

Hey Guys,

As we know, from Toobie, and my personal gut feeling, JZ is a man of his
word. I hope this happens. It will put to rest this whole debate, I look
forward to your results.

Cheers

Matt

Party at my place would be fine, when we get closer to AES we should work it out. My studio is located in NJ approximately 30 miles from the javits center, easily accesable by car and not entirely impossible to get to via public transportation. The show ends on the 10th, might be best to shoot for the 11th or 12th maybe? We could record a reel of stuff and provide some a/b comparisons for the JZ website or where ever. With enough notice I could probably arrange to have just about any classic mic under the sun available for comparison. All of this of course, free of charge. Here's to good karma.

I'm really looking forward to this. If JZ is for real, legal, and all that, I'm getting his version of the Kiwi.

is that like the capsule to make jazz recordings abstract?

dum dee dum dum :toobiesnack strolls by on this fair summer day:
oh what is this?
a group of people?... a mic discussion?
does ts kick his head back with a "sup" and ask "what it is ya'all?"
does ts keep walking in fear of this possibly angry mob?
hell ... ts is street smart and he is ok everywhere. right?
so ... i'll gently tip toe into this conversation .... i mean ... if that is ok?

first id like to throw a shout out to cat5 ... i hope you will find this forum as informative as 3d.

i'd like to drop a few bits of info but i don't have a polygraph or court testimony or a document so just please take it for what it is .. and don;t hammer me on it or ask me to prove or defend it .. this is info pased to me ... passed to you ... you find the truth ... like it have to as well.

secondly just so there is no confusion ... i am not a brown noser!!!!!
JZ pisses me off too sometimes...
but i do understand why he does the things he does...
he is a meticulous person and not very good with formal presentation.
i think he could give me more support.
i know a lot about marketing and the fine boring detail and i have many resources he could use but...
damn jz ... you need to pay attention to what i am telling you AND you should be contacting ME asking me how i can help.

clearly some help is needed ... i see this as an oportunity .. to just hey .. speak english ... american english ... so we can get the facts straight...

so i am in the middle here ...

and damn .... this is lonely ...
the real tragedy is I am just a really nice guy lovin my forum and my gear ... and one of my pieces of gear happens to be a jz mic.

BTW i am making my own ribbon mics and they fkn rock!!!!!

so when i can build my own great mics .. this makes me pretty independent ... just as i finished my first test pass with 2 of my new design mics ..then.. i started this reply ... the mics sound soooooo good ....
once again ... for a while ... you'll have to trust me on that.. :wink:eek:k one more thing .... just to prove i am unbiased ...
i have heard that the blue capsules are indeed made here in america ...
this is not substantiated ... but what i have heard is ...
they originally intended to make them in china but there were so many capsules rejected in quality control that there was no real saving to justify the move ... so ...

now this part is pure conjecture on my part ...

i assume that (if i am also aloowed ot have asumtions .. more of a guerss really)
that .. this is where the red line came from .. just a stall until the blue factory could actually go online here in the us ... this is a big deal setting up a factory ...

ok some of you might ask how do i know?

well just as a little toobiesnack fun fact check this out:
this is my uncle hugo unruh pictured at this website ...

the man was great .... my mentor ...

http://www.motionvillage.com/welcome_center/history/

anyway this is a little bit tiring and i need to get on with some mic testing but i'll adress a few things ... i may not be here for a week or two so ...please once again just take for what it is .. just me talking ... no big deal ...

>Toobie, do you have one available to send to them? JZ? Maybe even Cat 5
would be willing to loan his out for them to take a look at?

OK where does gus and marik live .. i mean generally?
i am in charlotte nc usa

>Hopefully Jakob will get to try his Black Knight out soon and post his
thoughts as well.

yeah ... i an really looking forward to this too ... really i am ... i don't knwo any more than anyoner else .. except for the jz-1 which i love (can i say that? hehe )

>my invitation still stands to have a representative from violet swing by and use my studio for sound samples and comparisons. Im close to NYC, perhaps close to AES.

Dave .. i have been thinking of contacting you and asking if this offer still stood .. i was trying to come there and see clarence kane ans my neice and an old friend ... i thought it might be nice to stop by there too ..
i hope i can arrange this .. i have never been to NYC except in passing ..

>This place is a sanctuary of intelligence and is practically a virgin untouched by the corporate finger of bias compared to most audio hangouts. I say we keep is as pure and free as possible.

yeah nice huh? and well worded ...
it got a chuckle out of the idea that some may have thought i was a "corporate finger" hehehehehe lol ...
i'm two steps to the left from being a gypsy ... lol

hey love ya'll ... much respect ...

i hope we can just hear mics and then make up our own minds ...
as it should be ...
and then there are some who wil take a chance ..
i bought a neumann tlm 193 from sweetwater haveing never heard the mic ... it served me well for a while ... and now i know that i like a ribbon mic sound better and i have shifted my focus but.. sold my neumann for a good price and now i know for myself what that mic souds like ...

i am not suggesting this is a great way to but mics buit i had jsut become used to it because of the desire to hear all the ribbon mics i could and since you pretty much haved to buy one to find ouit that is what i did..
and that is what i will continue to do ..

buy a mic use it test it if i don't like i'll flip it for some reasonable cash ... it's a safe investment .. and sometimes a really good one ..
later
