Yes, students of history have seen this play out before... I am glad I'm old, and don't have any children to worry for.

I do worry for everybody else.

I'm not sure what this means coming from you.  Whom are you worried about turning the US fascist/authoritarian?

I asked you a question.  I am sincerely curious as to what/whom you meant, because I could not discern this from your comment.  You are welcome not to answer, but please don't accuse me of trolling (in this case, at least. 8))

And let me guess, you'll be the judge of whether we're gracious or not?

No thanks.  If you think Biden won't be gracious, I can randomly cut & paste some text from a genuine Trump speech and it'll read even worse than it sounded.

I want to remind everyone here to respect our DIY forum members to the highest degree we can personally muster. Us liberal leaning members have more reason than ever now to be courteous and understanding. Turning this into some kind of "told you so", or "now we're gonna really hold you responsible for what you did..." type of thing, is just wrong. There's already a movement to hold "responsible" staff leaving the white house. Lets ruin these people! Its so wrong on so many levels. This post title is "congrats to you know". That's pretty cool, and a chance for more civil discussion on how things are moving forward. The pendulum has once again swung. Barely, but it swung. Half the country voted for Trump, again. I have friends who voted for Trump who are regular good people. This isn't some big win or mandate...I will not accept that HALF the county is bigoted racist xenophobes. And I don't accept the people on this forum who voted for Trump are those things either.
I actually think the Trump presidency was necessary to shine a light on how broken the system is. I'm not happy about what happened to the supreme court... And many other things, but what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.
To really reject the Trump presidency is to move towards unity. Yeah yeah its just a slogan but its important, and we should keep that in mind here.

Much love,
ian

Don't worry, America will be just fine.

I have one son and two step-kids (one now with her own daughter) who are all citizens of that great nation.  I'm always hopeful for their future.

Anyway, it's nice to see your congrats.  Onwards and upwards...

Turning this into some kind of "told you so"

Been a tumultuous four years.
Learned you can't tell nobody nuttin while leaning on an overton windowsill, that free will is a paywall with ads, and that games of law vs. love wholly depend on the weather. Tough lessons in maturity and discourse.

I wish us all a more sane, humane, less-profane 2021.

It ain't over till it's over.  I wouldn't make any predictions of any kind until Jan 20th.
From here:

Or the loser's party could send a rival slate of electors to the electoral college or to Congress, and say, "We're the real electors," and create a whole situation with that. Any of this stuff could create such a mess in the electoral college and the Congress, that the whole matter just winds up in front of the House of Representatives for the first time since the 1800s.

Now, here's where it gets totally crazy. If the presidential election winds up in the House of Representatives, they don't have to pay any attention at all to the popular vote or the electoral vote. It's like the election never happened. And then it gets even crazier. The final tally in the House is taken not by delegates but by delegation. In other words, individual congresspeople don't get to vote. It's done by states.

Now, get your head wrapped around this. In 2020, the majority of Americans live in blue states, but there are more red states.

It's certainly possible, but I don't think they would find enough people to actually break the US democracy. This would just be one bridge too far.
I think it´s becoming clear, they´re gonna try anyway-

Pompeo: "There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration."
Exact same tactics that was pulled off with Chile, Iran, Kongo and many others
is coming home,
ignore/liquidate democratically chosen leader, forcefully install
right-wing leader that ensures continuing freedom (for US big money interests of course),
call it glorious victory over socialism, teach that to children in school, done---
