Did I ever tell you that...

the UTC A10 and the UTC HA-100X are the exact same transformer, the only difference being the extra shielding of the 100X?

Take that knowledge along with you the next time your surfing evilbay for iron.
Also, the A10 may actually be better than the HA-100X because the extra shielding can suck a little of the sound out of the 100X.

I got so hung up in transformer projects that I forgot to mention this.
Now ya know!

Yup ya did a while back!

I filed that CJ tidbit under "Read-This-Before-Spending-Money" folder

But then again, I've never been a "vintage voodoo" chaser.

i'm sorry. This can't possibly be correct because:

1. the ha-100x is bigger
2. it was the "more original" original transformer
3. I have one

so there.

actually.. ha ha I have both. I bought a grab bag of transformers for $5 at a hamfest and there was an ha-100x in there.

and carbon composition resisters sound "warmer"!

doh ! ... I never have that sort of luck ...

me neither! I was shocked. But it used up all my good luck for a decade I think. I heard about someone who found a Fairchild 670 in a dumpster.

Kiira;
I am afriad CJ is right EXACT same transformer.
Do a sweep of level into the transformer at like 50 Hz
and plot level vs. distortion for both units.
You will then have your answer the same thing.
The extra sheilding just adds size to the HA100X

I think Kirira was just joking around.
Actually, the HA-100X will measure differently inside and outside of the can due to all that metal stealing some of the field, plus capacitance to the can will be higher, which means less of a resonance peak.
