Acquired a rather nice, slightly older stroboscope with a missing cable.  The connector is stumping me;  this isn't audio-related, but maybe one of you knows the name of it?  It's around an inch diameter, maybe slightly less.

Any clues will be very much appreciated.

can you see a manufacturer embossed in the casting of the shell?

looks to me something like this......  http://australia.rs-online.com/web/p/mil-spec-circular-connectors/2411115/?searchTerm=241-1115&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6265724D504E266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5E5C647B337D5B5C732D2F255C2E2C5D5C647B332C347D2426706F3D313426736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5F4E554D424552267573743D3234312D313131352677633D4E4F4E4526

but with a contact/pin configuration that was discontinued long ago.

Can you swap it for something newer?

Nope, don't see any text.  I'll try opening it up to see if there's something on the inside...

This is on a CSI 444b stroboscope.  It's old, but not too old.  The lock on your link looks very similar, but the blade-type pins seem odd.  The connector on this strobe also has a thread for the dust-cap.

If possible, I'd like not to replace the connectors.  Suppose that's what it might come to, though.

With power connectors there is always concern about using some common audio connecter, because there is always the risk that somebody will plug audio into it, because they can.  For personal use there is always the temptation to use what it handy. From decades in the design business I always worry about safety and unintended usage.

FWIW, the Neutrik Powercon series are handy for this kind of thing, and fit a standard 24mm XLR cut-out.

The locate notch things on the inside of the socket surround look like an Amphenol connector, but I've not seen those shape pins before. Maybe get in touch with them or take a look through their catalogue.

I opened it up, and lo and behold there's the part number!  Felt a little silly;  I should have checked before posting.  It's an AMP 206036-2, and it looks like the mating plug is still available & being made.

Thanks, everyone, for your help!

now that would be a 'one of a kind' stupid thing to do! Powercon connectors are made to carry mains AC power! imagine that some idiot will put a regular mains voltage cable into this piece of equipment.... far worse then Johns audio connector example and possibly life threatening. sorry for the harsh comment but thats one of the things we should omit in DIY, making unsafe gear. it's like filling soda bottles with chemical fluids, just because you have them laying around. speaking of I need to go to the basement.... ;-)
