Hi all,

I'm about to dig into two recap projects, a Urei 1176 rev H and a 1985 Audio Precision System One.  I finished a GML 8304 mic pre from 1994 a few weeks ago, it sounds great.

I used Vishay from Mouser for the GML but I'm wondering what you all are using for Aluminum Electrolytics? Ideally I'd like low ESR, 105 degree and easily available (I prefer Mouser).

Any favorites?

Cheers,
Ruairi

P.S. Even though I'm a very fussy mastering engineer I don't subscribe to the Electrolytic caps are eveil school of though.  Limit the voltage dropped across the cap and I think they can be very benign.

Nichicon PW, but they are typically larger than other caps with similar uF/V ratings. Make sure you have space to fit them in your recap project.

how about SAMWHA? Are they any good?

I have used them for high value, high voltage application sin HT power supplies (470uF/450V) but not directly in the audio path.

Cheers

Ian
OK thanks :)

I use a ton of Nichicon PW at my shop.  No problems so far.  They can be a bit large for modern boards, but usually smaller or the same size as vintage caps.

Hey,
I use Nichicon VX axial.
Frolyt, and F&T for tube PS filtering.
If I want very silky and not too stiff/detailed I use Evox Riva.

+ somtimes cheap 85 degree something.

best Stephan

I use Pansonic FC's & FM's in power supplies & on power rails; Nichicons for interstage coupling; if required.
