I have been recording myself, friends, and my partner for a while, and have made some simple pieces of audio equipment, I am hoping to learn more about building mics and preamps.
I have made a box with lundahl transformers for the insert section of a uln8 by metric halo, as well as a bunch of xlr cables. That's really it.
Mostly record folk and acoustic music.
I am interested in eventually building an m49 pair, or maybe something similar to a bock u195 but multipattern.
I am interested in building a tube or transformer coupled preamp. Looking at different kits... CAPI, AML, etc. I used to have a couple art pro mpa ii preamps that I had put vintage rca blackplate tubes in. I thought they sounded not great because I was overthinking, ran through a bunch of audio equipment, and listening back to those recordings with a pair of soundelux u195 and the mpa ii with rca tubes, they sound fantastic.
Mostly I am looking to build four channels of euphonic preamps on a budget.
Not sure how feasible this is, feel free to talk me out of it.
