That's some great news! How many kits did you order and have you got any closer to a pricing figure? I think I remember you saying close to Peter's EQN price. Anyway you're a bad mother f&@ker for doing this. Just curious, did you even expect or plan on releasing a kit when you built your original? Cause you've got a serios flock of us waiting eagerly with excitement for these.

Cheers,
Brice Conrad

Yeah, getting closer to final price, just ordering the last few bits (only a few days lead time) which I'll be adding to the kit.
Looking like I'll be able to include: double sided PCBs (4pcbs), Metal work (bracket & screened front panel), Push switches, White push caps, Heatsink for 2N3055, all screws, Standoffs for the £135 I reckon.
When I first did it, it was just for my own needs. Needed a 500 series Neve pre, as authentic as possible. The one's on the market, although are great, are not completely the same as the 1073.

More details to follow soon

When would you be expecting payments, and would you be willing to run this again in the future?

No need to pay until I get everything.  Sure, getting another run should be fairly easy now.

Can't wait this looks completely awsome. Definatly for sure wanna buy 2 from you

Do you have a list of the parts not included with the kit that are necessary to build the preamp?

Unfortunately the metal workers have slippied up a bit and not countersunked the front panel holes on this run.  So they're picking them up tomorrow, to rectify.  So probably a week delay I'm afraid.
Here's a quick new pic....  (more to follow.. of pcb etc.)

95per cent finished the build of this new one, to check BOM is correct.  I'll share once I'm done. Just waiting on a few parts.

Metalworkers always seem to slip up  :-\ It's looking good though, looking forward to putting one together

Nice work,

I am happy to the trim looks at home on this beauty. Very nice work. Are you going to do being taking payments through paypal? Okay I'll stop.. I know you'll let us know all the details when it's time.  :) Just incredible!

Hi guys...  I'm a newbie to this forum (and DIY Pres)...
Would love 2 as well...  let me know when things are ready what next steps are...
Silly question, but will these pres be fairly straight forward to put together?
I've got soldering experience and very minimal electronics knowledge (can work a voltmeter), but I'm willing to learn whatever it takes to put 2 of these gorgeous looking things together! :) Will be devouring lotsa books soon... hell, I'll even take night courses if I have to!!
Cheers

grillsta:

Don't think the night courses will be necessary.  I think the most difficult/time consuming part of these builds (esp. 500 series) is sourcing the right parts. A firm knowledge of the different types of components (capacitors, transistors etc) will go a long way. I had (still have) next to no electronics experience before showing up here and now I'm about to finish my first Tube Mic pre. Might help to brush up on the old soldering skills.

In short, I'm sure you can handle it.

grillsta: with that attitude you'll get there! but maybe try and put together something simple first while you are waiting for these pres...

maybe a pedal or a di box? or a test oscillator? something useful.

or even something like jeff's (classicapi) 500 series api style preamps - he sells all the parts required in his online shop, along with a detailed step by step construction manual - so you don't need to worry about parts sourcing or metal work or anything. they are very easy to put together - could be a good stepping stone. and they have the awesome vintage api sound to boot.
