I liked for you to do. What have you ever recapped it of do you have the desoldering pump you need that for that kind of well. You're a pro at this so I'm sure you have. You have all the right equipment. If you can't travel, I mean I'd pay you a good fee and all your expenses. And actually you're not too far from from maine 3 and 1/2 hours away from Boston so Toronto. The main really ain't that far but let me know if you can't do it. What you know somebody that will travel. That's as good as you. I rather have you come down but it's up to you. Again I just want to have this done. You know I can wait if you can't do it now. I'll wait till March, April if you need time. But now we can bang it on a February much. It's up to you or if you know someone that's as good as you all right? I kind of want to talk your head off but I've been doing this for 40 years around the world. I'm a very passionate. I'm artist producer. It's a privately owned studio so anyway that's basically it. Best regards, Ray

So how come you dont already have a tech? And then you come on a random forum offering money? This smells.

Maybe you smell? Maybe you are an amateur? What about that? Because I'm a professional and I don't come on these things cuz I'm a busy guy, I will go around the world doing music production. How come I don't have a tech because maybe I work in Europe. I don't work in the states but I happen to me the states for a year or two. Do you want to work? First of all, who are you? You know who I am or Hawaii my first name. Not that it's who you want. Are you a tech? Are you professional? That's not the answer I'm looking for. It's not offering. It's paying a rate. It's called paying a rate what technician that knows how to repair consoles because a need V series console is a very delicate piece of gear has nothing to do with offering. It has to do it. Looking for a technician that needs work that can repair my console. Are you that person? Yes or no who you may be people there's a guy out here. Be careful. He's not saying we who he is or whatever my name is Ray. I'm legit. I don't know who he is. Be careful anyway. If y'all legit tell me who you are. I'm new at this for him. I don't use these things I never have. I don't need to but now I need a tech. Are you that tech? Yes or no? Thank you

Anyway I need a tech. Are you in Canada Canada's close you want, do you know how to recap these nerves s? VSX now you know I know what I'm talking about are you? If you're close, you're in Canada. If you know how to do those consoles, do you want to recap it? That would have been the answer. Yes, I know how to recap those boards but you came with an answer totally. That makes no sense. Well anyway if anybody knows any real good text out there let me know. Have a great day and happy New Year tomorrow especially Brothers engineers, songwritis musicians, all that are passion in what they do and I've done it a long time like myself. Happy New Year guys!

This track? What does that mean this track? I don't know what you're talking about. Are you a tech? What does that mean this it reminds you of a track? What track? I don't get it

I don't get it. It reminds you of a track that makes no sense fill me in. I don't know what you're talking about. What do you mean? It reminds you of a track? What track?

Believe me if I was wasting time I wouldn't be on here. I'm just trying to find a tech that knows how to recap. Neve. VSX are you that person? Let me know. Thanks!

Let me see if y'all legit. What do you know about Nevis? What do you know? I want to see if y'all at you now you're making me think. Is this guy a tech or is he just shooting the breeze? Let me know if you want. I need a tech. I don't know how far away you are but I need my whole board recapped let me know the master section and maybe if need be the power supplies as well. Everything is connected and up and running and functioning but hasn't been recapped in 18 years. These things have to be recapped every 10 years at least because they run very hot. That's the deal. Let me know if you're a good tech and you know how to work on leaves these series because the 107° and all the other ones those are easy. This is a complicated console

Hi,
I would ask to someone who is dedicated in this kind of things. And given the money you offered to get the job done i would ask the best i've met and which was already mentioned in this thread: Neil McCombie.

I worked with him for commissioning of a VX and can only tell he knows the AMS/NEVE console to the last nut.

Here is where you can contact him, but be aware the man is busy and it can take some time for him to travel to your place but once there you'll be pleased by work done, and i learned a lot with him about the console (and time spend with him was great, he is a nice guy!):

Hey man, I appreciate it. You know where I buy you an Express so I'm Italian-American. I'm Italian. I lived in Europe a long time doing music in Italy. I traveled all over the place you sound. Thanks for that. Thanks for that connection. That was nice of you. If you need anything out here, no music let me know. I'm here. Thank you. Well, if you learned a lot, why don't you do it? You can make you know I can pay you for the work but I'll definitely hit him up. Thank you. My name is Ray. Where you from

Hi,
I'm located in France.
I learned a lot about the differences between VR Legend i had taken care of before and VX, about the two automation's used in both ( FF and the VX had Encore), many things mechanical about the chassis ( we had to build some trolley to put the desk onto and given it was a 60 it needed some planing not to twist chassis), some electronic things... what you would expect from an expert. ;)

Why i don't do it? Well because i know my own limits: i could recap everything audio related in chanels and master section, no issue i've already done it. It's time consuming, needs a bit of planing ( i prepared bags with capacitors needed for each section beforehand) but if you are focused and not disturbed will doing it, you have the 'good tools' ( expander which connect to main board and allow to check modules/chanels outside the chassis) then it usually run smooth.
But if there is issue within the automation or logic within the console i'm probably not able to identify the issues and fix them. This is where those consoles are complex. And i know too that a bad fix can generate even more troubles afterward and that sh.t happens even in routine servicing...

And there is the PSU. No way i put my hands into this. You are unlucky and have those 'coca-cola cans' discharging through yourself then...bye bye.
Or they releases their acid on you after exploding... no thanks, i leave it to those who knows, i've got two small kids and a wife. ;)
It's exagerated of course but there is some really deadly things into the psu. The one for plasma bargraph scared me especially.

About the PSU i recently seen someone offered some newly designed ones, running cooler and with better efficiency than original ones, can be something to study given electricity cost and savings on AC in machine room. I will try to find the link and post it here in case you have interest into.

Edit: Found them

So i would not comit to something i can't (fully) do. But if you want me to help doing safe soldering job under supervision of someone like Neil to take care of serious stuff i could really think about it! :)

In France i know some other guys which could do the serious stuff too. If you can't reach Neil then i could tell you with which to try but i'm sure there is other people able to do it in the place the console is located.

You are an musician that's it? Is your forum's avatar name linked to your musician's nickname Ray?

Hello Maro. I didn't see your response until just now. Yes, I have re-capped and upgraded a Neve V Series desk and can put you in touch with the owner of that desk. Yes, I can make it sound as good or better than new. Yes, I chose capacitors that will last longer than the new ones. Yes, I own proper de-soldering tools, and my kit is packed for fly-in jobs. And no, I will not negotiate in public on this forum. You can reach me via my website which is in my signature file below. We can talk on the 2nd.

Let me explain something to you. I have a record label. I don't put all disclos on my information with new age and new music, the Sony rackets and the '80s and the '90s. I'm not going to go telling you my whole basic stories. I'm in my '50s. I'm not just your rapper musician. I wasn't. I obviously am a musician to be a producer. You have to be a musician. If you are not a musician, you cannot be a producer. It's that simple. That's why I need a tech. I'm not a tech but I'm not just a musician. I'm a well-known producer but I'm not going to State my whole. That's kind of personal. You know I have everybody calling me looking normal produce this for those that I don't have time these days to do that. So I work on my own things certain artists whether they come out on the billboard or top 10 or number one. That's between me and the artist and I've done it in the past so I'm not just a minute. I'm not your average musician by far far 55 years done it around the world 50 times over my friend. Anyway, that's why I need a technician. I'm not a technician but I do know theory and I do run any board that has ever been built. I have mixed on it. I don't repair them but I know that theres all boards have the same theories even though our boards are different. That's why I need a technician or recap this board. You feel me now as far as the buckets, it's not a whole board. They're in buckets. You know that right? So I had a 72 channel I had a side. You're from France right? Bet you didn't know I knew this. I worked in a report of our existed from EMI consoles. The right 37. A red $47 the red '57 the TG 12345 I've worked on them all. I've recorded Pink Floyd I've written. I don't even want to get into certain things. Anyway, I've recorded out voscow Rosa. You know Vasco Rosa Italian rock star played with him before I was a producer. I I'm talking to the '80s the '90s then I went to production but let's put that aside. That's personal all right. You know that all right played with his people as well. Did a toy head did a toy here. Then I went into production and I'm still into production but I'm always a musician first. Obviously you cannot be a producer for you, an automation and I was a really good musician. I was a guitarist. I play keyboards because I write songs. I do a lot of s*** bro. I couldn't even begin to the s*** I know musically but again I'm not a technician. That's why I need a technician but every other field of music I covered and I still do it anyway. There was a board that I worked on in France. It was called the saje. I forget what model was. This was 1991 when zuko came out with the song Mama that any of moraconi. Believe it or not, film school genius worked on that song on some of the melodic content. Great! Great film school right at one of the best another Italian moricone I know you heard him. I know him personally. Well. He died, but anyway that's just a crumb of the cake. The s*** I've done and who I've done it with I went with. I've been with a lot of heavy headers. Anyway. Yeah there was a board called the sajje and it was made in France. It was a great board. It sounded nice. It was a cheap man's knee attack, although it had some SSL features but I think it was called up. Poor man's Neve that's what it's called at the time. The poor man's Neve but it was still you know 190 to $200,000 compared to the need at that time which was almost $400,000 but it was a great salmon bored. Wow. What a bored it didn't last that many years. Now it's all junk. I worked on that too. That was a French boy. By the way. You're in France, right? I'm sure you heard of it. It's garbage these days but at that time 30 years ago was a great sound of aboard. But it didn't last that long but you didn't know I knew that. Did you? I don't know if you know what I'm pretty sure you do if you're a technician. It was called the saje made in France. Anyway, nice talking to you. Have a good one
