I'm curious about kk's method as wel, but here's how I did it:
1) Stick the tape on the backplate. Tape width >=20mm. I used Mylar tape, but with 50um thickness, it is actually too thick.
2) With a pair of scissors, remove the tape sticking out from the capsule.
3) With a sharp knife, and working under my microscope, I cut out the center piece of the tape along the edge of the brass inner part of the backplate where it meets the plastic insulator ring around the backplate.
As I said, the mylar tape was too thick. Sensitivity dropped by 10 dB. So I removed the tape an assembled the capsule again. Sensitivity was still not back to the original value and Frequency Response a hilly landscape. The only positive thing I achieved was the removal of the deep trough.
Good luck....
