Hey guys!

Long time listener first time caller. Need help replacing the LR bus switches in a Crest VX.

Bought this old Crest for $900 and been refurbing it. I know right? The 64 frame one loaded with 40 mono and 6 stereo. Used to be in the HOB Chicago and migrated down to New Orleans where I bough it a week ago.

So aside from some worn out parts of the frame like the side panels and arm rest that I'm hopefully replacing from a GT that a Gearslutz member is gonna be parting out I really only need a dozen or so LR bus switches.

I think the originals where made by E Switch but there's nothing but an "E" and a tiny corporate logo on them. They're  plunger w/ cap style with 18 legs. I'm guessing these are probably 6PDT ON/ON? Does that sound right? The newer line by E switch is not available in small ordered from Mouser or DigiKey so I found a C&K switch that has the right dimensions and number of legs. The 6PDT ON/ON model is the only one I could find that has 18 legs so I'm pretty sure that's the deal. I haven't been able to find a schematic for the VX yet but the switch should be the same for the whole series and I can link to it as well as provide pics of the original switch.

I'm new here sorry.

Thanks.

Funk-O-Meter,

I've got the schems for the VX console and will gladly send them your way if you PM me your e-mail address.
I'd post them in the Technical Doc's section but I'd have to chop up the pdf to make it small enough to post with the 1000kb limit.

If you wouldn't mind since it sounds like you have it opened up, could you take some nice hi res pics of the channel strip for me?  If high res isnt an option just some regular old photo's would work too.  And if the model number of the transformer is handy that as well.

I worked on one of these for about 4 years at a 2200 seat hall here and absolutely loved it.  Now they wnt with an M7 and it's collecting dust in a closet & they wont sell!   ::)

yea Crest VX > Yammy M7 for sure. I mean there's the utility aspect of a digital but the crest sounds and feels better. Even in the dirty and un kept state it was in when I got it home the moment I fired it up and listened to it and I remembered how great a big well built desk is. Sounded great and quiet. Plugged in some phones and the headphone amp nearly took my head off! Faders are Penny and Giles. All chips are socket-ed and labeled on the PCB so I can easily tweak :) Jensen trannys on the main bus outputs. Big fat meter bridge with LED lamps and easy access to calibration controls. Two or three chassis fans with a variable speed control on the back.

It's a good desk.

Hey, Funk:
I may also able to help, I'm one of the designers of the Vx.
For those L-R assign switches, we used either E-Switch or possibly ALPS.
The E-Switch P/N: PBH-6U-EE-N-AG
Mouser (Germany) actually has some available....
Here's a link to the E-Sw datasheet:

Casey said he had the schemos available, I'll let him handle getting them to you.
You can PM me with any questions.

JP (Ex-Crest, now APB)

Well there ya go! Thanks John! What a great help! Yea he send the schemo's to me thanks so much for the help guys! What did people ever do before the internet?

BTW I have to tell you the APB's I've worked with have really impressed me.

Hey guys, got all my LR bus switches replaced and the old girl is about done. Now I'm looking for info on the "solo" button switches. 6PDU I think. A dozen legs, plunger style same as the others on the end up cards but this switch is a bit larger and is white with a "P" looking logo. Says "6 11 X" on it. I'm guessing I can sub another brand for it like http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/CK-Components/PHA6UEE/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvxtGF7dlGNpkw%2f1G50ibAIdK9lZdXLGII%3d but you guys where so helpful before I figured I'd ask here first.

Thanks.
