That's a nice box for a pedal - I got one myself, albeit in a much nicer state, with a golden faceplate, and am still wondering what to do with it. Maybe an EQ build would be interesting as my first big project.

Slightly off-topic but do you know if there are any meetups for diy nerds in Berlin? I live there at the moment, hence the question :)
The vacation season is behind me, now I have more time for DIY again. I will finish a few projects and have found a nice case again. An old Grundig mixer, ideal for a small upcycling project.

I think I'll build a PT2399 delay in there as a desktop FX.

I see a waveguide...
Bought at Auction house for not much $ . And that's just a third of it. This lot is ex Australian CSIRO research equipment most of it powers up. I have no idea what most of it is. There's another rack full which i can't access to photograph that looks like a rack full of Pultecs. Same knobs but that's where the similarity ends unfortunately. Now no excuses to finish all those tube projects, enclosures for days.

My junkyard buddy informed me that a Grundig TK30 tape recorder has turned up at their place. After 4 "Edelstoff", fraternally shared, the handover took place. Poor condition, ideal for cannibalization. What can you expect?

Now it's getting interesting. We can see the opulent mains transformer, the output transformer, the selenium rectifiers and the tubes in the background.

The motor, the signal and oscillator tubes and the Humdinger (right corner) potentiometer exclusively for V1, an EF86.1000026646.jpg

The prey 😅 The tubes are Telefunken EF86 und ECC81...1000026656.jpgone produced in Berlin, the other in Ulm.

die power tube is a Lorenz EL84, the VU /tuning indicator tube a Valvo EM84

Transformers:

The OPT is designed for a 3ohm speaker, normally 5ohm were more common. Anyway, it harmonizes very well with a 4 Ohm Jensen C10R or C10Q. Also works well with an ECL82 tube in a Gibson Skylark style amp.

Note the attached service manual with schematics.

That would make a nice screamy little guitar amp,
Absolutely right, this is the fastest and cheapest way to get a low watt SE tube amp!
This is my third Grundig TK30 that I've cannibalized, plus two TK35s and various other Grundig, Telefunken and Philips models. The Philips are the only ones with tube rectifiers. (y)
in a funky old box
...or in the original housing. It sounds really good, but unfortunately it's not suitable for high volumes, as the cabinet resonates. Still my workshop speaker though, check it out 😂 1000026677.jpg
I'd be interested in the motor, if you want to get rid of it...
Null problemo, what about a swap for one of your old school meter?

but what to do with this ?
ca. 40kg
0,5/0,6/1,24 kV sec
2* 6,3V enough to heat 2 400W amps
Use for HAM tube linear PA?
For audio the challenge would be finding an output transformer, and a set of very inefficient speakers, needing that much power. You may find some projects for direct drive tube to electrostatic speakers. Scary. Those can have very low impedance at high audio due to their capacitive nature.
No easy answers.

I was in the city today and checked out an old personal hotspot for "garbage" on the way back.

Big catch, that's all I could carry, I was on the S-Bahn.

A Grundig Tk17L tape recorder. Very dirty, casing dented at the back, ideal candidate for an upcycling project. Telefunken ECC83, ECL86 and EM84 equipped, all work very well, just tested. The power supply is also very usable plus a small but good OP transformer. Very nice!

But today's star is a Hameg 203-6 oscilloscope, totally dusty and dirty but it works on both channels and seems to be perfectly fine, I'm testing it right now. OMG! Finally an analog scope in my workshop again! I have missed my sadly deceased Philips/Fluke so much!

There are also a few tubes, besides exotic ones (e.g. EMM803!) also ECC83/ECC81/EF86/EL84 from Telefunken and Valvo, also very nice.

Last but not least, I picked up these three circuit boards, no idea what they are. Inverters? Fat Wima MKP capacitors on it, I couldn't leave them behind. What are these big blue things? (Edit: current transducer Hais 50-P)
