It's only about 2dB up from the base curve, a little bit less even, so it's not a ton more upper mids. Having a slope down and recession like this comes from through hole issues and also messes with the pattern response. The red curve looks upper mid-heavy in comparison but keep in mind that's a little over half as much as many neumann k47s and a third as much as most Chinese ones, at least on my setup, so I wouldn't call it "way more". I still have to decide whether to go with a mid forward tuning or a flat one like the flat k47
You are right, of course. It was late over here when I wrote "way more" - I didn't check the graph properly. It looked 5dB-ish...

I love my Thiersch PVC M7, but it does sound a little “scooped” to me. Sometimes that’s good for certain voices, but it’s definitely not as flat as your Flat K47, and I could see the benefit of a capsule in between those two.
I’ve never tested the red and blue lines in the same circuit and body (I may have an opportunity to do so soon), so take this with a grain of salt. But yes, I also find the PVC version (blue) sounds a little 'scooped.' In contrast, the mylar version sounds a bit mid-heavy to me. That shouldn’t be the case according to the manufacturer, which makes it a bit mysterious.

Looking forward to hearing the Soliloquuen's M7. I don’t mind how it’s voiced, but that extra high-frequency extension compared to a K47 won’t hurt 🤗

Great news they are shipping again! Time to order another pair. So how long would an order placed today take to ship, though? Just wondering.
by my count, we have 15 in stock right now after all the current preorders are shipped. as long as you are within those 15 units, you will get it this month

After searching this thread I found a speculative SPL rating of ~140dB on the K47 - is it confirmed to be that robust?
140db at 30hz is very different to 140db at 1k. I am pretty sure most LDC can take 140db at 1K no problem, it is electronics that are the bottleneck.

But put it at kick drum hole and it won't last long even at lower SPL.

So if I ordered one K87 in June, I will definitely get it this month or beginning of November?

unless something bizarre happens where some of the units are damaged or some crazy event like that, yes. the units are literally scheduled to arrive here this Friday (that is, tomorrow). Shipping will begin in earnest immediately, after I verify that I still have all the required accessories.

I'm also going to be making some unusual k47s to flex our new manufacturing capacity now that my friend has offered to do the parts instead of the big megafactory we've been using. I'll share more details when they're done. Not sure what I'll do with these. Maybe loan them or auction them off.

Here's some pictures of the work my friends shop has done this past week:

Not to say the mass production metal we've been using is bad at all but it is very refreshing to have someone tolerant of my lunacy who will fulfill whatever completely crazy request I make rather than feeling like I have to bid for a huge factory to care at all about my tiny order. Someone equally crazy to me apparently since he insisted on putting tiny 50 micron chamfers on every hole:

Apparently they didn't have any chemical deburrant on hand that could handle brass. Might put that on the shopping list.

That's almost Patek Philippe level 👌 Interested to hear what's the effect of the chamfers on the sound.

Yesterday i finished a pair of Twin (dual output) microphones with the flat K47 capsules. I used boards with a somehow upgraded NT1a circuit, sold by @dima_k85 on ebay, for having a really low noise floor.
Donor bodies are Recording Tools MC900, aka KEL Audio Sparrow, which give the mics a look similar to the Sphere L22, but smaller.
Will post samples after trying them, but it will take some days or weeks!
hey bremusound, how did you get along with these? any demos we can hear? has anyone else done anything similar?
