Done. Even though the grille is glued, I encountered no noise problems.
Just gently pry the grille loose with a small screw driver. Thanks for the heads up guys. Now we know.

It's alive. Went down as a solid state and came back up as a tube mic. And it's a winner. I'm almost tempted to post audio. I love getting my socks knocked off by cheap capsules...sub $20 too. Haha!

Well, that's what we were waiting for: a sound test!
Very tempted, the vocal sounds great but I song nonsense, lol. I'm digging it though.

No noise issues and I spent a lot more on capsules that didn't sound half as good. Capsules are like plugins, sometimes the little cheap one makes it into the template, lol. $18 transformer too, just undocumented. All I had to do was run a polarity check and wire it in!

Alright OK. This is the first 5 mins, no warm up or break in. So I imagine it will get better? A very light touch of effect to sit the vox no processing and I like to hit the mike a certain way to see how it handles itself. Just sending some noise through the mic, that's all.

Ok, as I've gotten used to you, I quickly isolated the voice.
Ignoring the Reverb and Delay.
Congratulations, Mister Reggae!👏

The damn mic distracted me yesterday, even though I was flipping back and forth between the two. I like one stage of gain mic pres but I need the extra gain and I cannot listen to this Warm Audio WA73 I have here. I just need to hang some electrolytics on the rails then knock out the +24/ -24V PS. And I'll be closer to done and done with electronics as well. I figure 49yrs is long enough or should I go one more and round it off at 50yrs of inhaling solder smoke, lol..1000021743.jpg

We are waiting for the results.

I'm using the single stage BJT input version in the samples I posted. Similar to the John Hardy M1 with a few changes to the opamp and none of the servo stuff. I tried that once and didn't think it was worth the effort...to me. The offset was greatly reduced but not gone. So coupling cap it is. Nice an simple too.

At this point in the Friday evening a few shots of rum got the voice even raspier than usual and I pulled up a memory and freestyled it into one of the recent solid state builds. This one has the cheapy K47 cardioid capsule along with the AliExpress T8 tranny. In this thread I have been focussing on the hybrid tube and this solid state circuit. I tried various capsules and tubes with the tube circuit and two capsules and transformer ratios with this. The other solid state mic sounds more transparent than this one. Cheap body, capsule and transformer...sub $100. Don't just clone my friends, go forth and make mistakes...I love making mistakes to learn from, haha!

Yes, the voice is more sibilant, has more mids, highs, less body.
But the performance is good.

It's a known fact that a few shots of rum change the EQ in the mix😁

I may have posted the processed audio. We can blame it on the rum.
