Anyone on the thermistor wave?

Any reason to use or not use thermistors? For 1 dollar and two seconds to solder in are they worth it for reservoir caps or are they just an unnecessary thing that can go wrong?

I've seen one on some TrainWreck Express power supply schemos.

Or should I just put so much equipment in my rack that it pulls down the entire neighborhood's mains voltage when I power it on and lower in-rush current that way instead.

I´ve modified several PSUs with thermistors at the mains input to lower inrush current. It works. I´ve seen one fail, though, in a Midas XL2900 PSU which has been overloaded by a clueless user who thought his desk can be operated with only one PSU. So I think it might be a good idea to carefully chose the right one and not overload them.
