I saw a Wunder CM7 over the holiday and the dome is indeed rounded like that.

The owner of the mic said that he was told by the Wunder rep that the CM7 headbasket is made by a jeweler.

??

Hah!

:D

Ooops/brilliant! I meant Wagner... (The Wanger is perhaps best suited to recording the Weiner Philharmoniker) ;D Err... By the way (and OT), how do you rename links like that?

Can you please take a pic of head basket inside so I can show to my machinist how are the "rings" connected with verticals? I hope you understand what I'm talking about  :p

I´ll try and do this, however I suspect there´s not much to see. The mesh covers the intire inside of the basket, except bottom mounting ring.

I have a few pics of the FLEA manufacturing process but I can't seem to attach them. Every time I try I get and error that says the uploader file is full.  The pics are only about 30kb each.

I'll keep tryin'.....Lee.

Yes, still around.

I've been working with Moby offline, and it seems he's getting all of the info needed to his local machinists (who are on holiday until Jan 13th).
After that point, we should start seeing some quotes.

Here's a practical question for everyone.
Let's say we find a shop who can make these at, say...$90 each.
If we do a batch of 100, that's $9000 that we have to come up with.
Is someone going to front the cash to make this happen?
Or are people willing to pay in advance, and wait a bit before they receive their mic body?

I personally cannot front that amount of money nor do I want to be responsible for covering it if people don't pay up.
I trust most people on this forum, but you never know...

I've got some great sources for shops who could do this work (mainly through mfg.com),
but I don't want to be the money-man.

Moby, have you thought about the financing on this project?

Naw, I think paying in advance is reasonable... shouldn't have to front the 9k for the whole batch... and
I'd definitely be in for $90

Someone trusted will need to be the money man (or woman) then we'll all send money via paypal... no need to front it, that is a lot of risk for one person.

No problem paying in advance for me !
I think everybody will...

But there might be a lot more interest then 100 pcs ??

Yes  :) Since I don't have idea to make profit from this I think that paying in advance is welcome. Of course , I will pay for prototype or few of them but if we go for100+ pcs than somebody will have to collect money. I think that I'm worst person for that because I can't receive paypal  :( so If I make a deal with machinist ,somebody will have to do that money collecting. But lets wait a little and see about that deal with machinist.  ;)

Okay, if this is the case, then I will go ahead and submit for an RFQ through mfg.com.
This should yield some good quotes. I'll open it up to US, China, & everywhere else for that matter.

As was discussed before, is this safe with respect to other people copying your guys' hard work? I don't suppose there is any other option though if you are wanting to put something to tender.

..which was already copied from a decent amount of hard work by the original designers, lest we forget. Open source seems to work awfully well in the software industry, so why not here.

If you go to the FLEA website and click on "House" at the bottom right side of the page you can bring up a small gallery of photos of their manufacturing process.  http://www.flea-microphones.com/

BTW I'd be interested in at least two bodies also.

Big thanks Lee!

I had seen some of those pictures before, but being able to see the inside of the head basket better gave me some ideas on how to improve my design and fix some of the assembly issues I was worried about.

So, essentially, to ease assembly, I think we'll want to go with a multi-piece head basket with vertical rails and rings, as Moby had suggested earlier.
This will be closer to the original as well!

Working on this change now.
