now im not ready to pay, see what a few weeks change.

Just my thought when I see something like this, as I don't know why it's posted or what it is to accomplish...

If you're not ready to pay now being only a few weeks out from apparently when you were, I question if you're financially stable enough to be buying such things?

Well,

I am still waiting on the headbasket quote which was supposed to come in last week.

I'm starting to notice a pattern here...
When a vendor says "I'll have that quote to you this week.", what they really mean is:
"I'll have that quote to you in two to three weeks."
!!!!

But when the quote does finally come in, I expect that it will be good.
I'm thinking the cost for the headbasket from this place will be no more than $75,
which should make the $175–200 price for the whole body easy to attain.
They've already done a mesh-only quote for under $12, which is a really good price.

This is pretty much the last piece of the puzzle.
I'm waiting for some fully finished parts (end-cap and body tube bead-blasted and anodized), and I will share images of those when they arrive.

My wife is a photographer's assistant and has access to a nice photo studio and a couple of pro photographers,
so maybe I can get some high-res beauty shots made? We'll see.

I question what business is it yours to question what I do?
Let it be known, here and now, I have other hobbies than music,
DIY for that matter.
Economic times are trying, with other investments and bills.

You mind YOUR business.

As the originally price being $100 and it has now doubled.
The timeframe has been long and drawn out.

Instead of shit talking about things you do not know about behind a computer screen?
Why not simply suggest a solution instead of being a smartass, or trying micro-manage my resources.

Since nobody has suggested this I will now:

Split the order in two.

Here is another solution, sell off your mic parts, use the money you get from it wisely and move on to something else... everyone wins.

dude, seriously.

the man (skylar) is in the process of doing a pretty goddamn awesome thing here. coupled with the equally awesome fact that he surely knows what comparable items are worth on the market, but is doing it as a gift to the community.

yet, you treat him as a business. a business who has somehow wronged you where absolutely zero money has been exchanged. if you are feeling impatient, then by all means you can purchase a u47 body from a company who offers such a thing.

as far as i am concerned the man is doing me a favor.

+1 bigtime.  The attitude displayed in Ferrari T's post is the kind that drives good people away from here.  I'm not one bit bothered how long it takes, Skylar is clearly driven by a passion to get it right and we the community are the benefactors.  I know of nothing comparable on the market (Flea were selling bodies for a lot more I believe).

DIY is not the way to get something fast and cheap, we have Behringer for that.  If you want guaranteed time frames and prices then commercial products are the way to go.

Cheers,
Ruairi

I never once named Skylar as a wrong-doer of any sort.
I never once faulted Skylar or talked shit, point fingers or blamed anyone.

I simply pointed out something, I wasn't complaining about the cost.
More so trying to see if arrangements could be made for more than a simple one off run.
Nothing more, nothing less.

If the whole group was ready to move at as a unit at once, then by all means move forward.
Clearly I never expected me as a sole person alone would halt production nor was my post an attempt to deter any schedule.

Let's be clear on a few things though.

The smartass insults can stop.

If you didn't like my suggestion then you could of simply pointed out that it doesnt seem feasible.

I see there are lots of smart mouths (assholes) and tough tony's here on the DIY board for many of reasons I find that it amuses me.

You gent's have a good day lol

You fools need to re-read my original post.
your making mountains out of a mole hill.
I have no problem stating names, if I had an issue with skylar or anyone on this board, I'd attempt to handle that behind the scenes via a PM.

I see emotions run high and estrogen is thick in the air.

I said I wasn't ready to pay at the moment.
then a guy comes in shooting his mouth off, minding my business for me.

Things do come up in life, I did notice around the holidays some people were not able to spend money on a lot of DIY stuff.
But I was able, sometimes in life other obligations come up.

I simply made a suggestion. I never once bad mouthed Skylar.

Thanks.

The only difference splitting the order in two would of made is simply cost per piece.
Now If a split order didn't not play a dramatic role in cost, what would be the big deal?

You still forget, while your acting like I do not appreciate what Skylar is doing, Who of you have stopped and thought what one large order for something of this caliber would be like?

* Quality control for every piece. [From both ends SHOP & You as buyer]
* Receiving payments.
* Packaging
* Shipping / Tracking numbers / International shipments.
* Dealing with errors, complaints, general customer service.

It amuses me, seriously it does.

Speaking from a logistics point of view my idea made perfect sense. [Regardless of the reason I presented the idea in the first place.]

The only thing that should have been questioned was how such an idea would effect pricing.

But instead of thinking is such a manner other than a selfish one, I get a ton of smart ass edited posts. (nobody seems to give a shit about the next guy, so how is this a community?)

I'm not the one coordinating this in the least bit so all I can possibly do is observe and make comments.

Ultimately in the end regardless of what anyone here says it is in the hands of one person.

That would be me, I guess? Ask others here about my reputation and you'll see I don't quite "shoot my mouth off"...

Look, you made it EVERYONE'S business when you posted in a public forum. We have every right to post here just as you do.

I mean, really, what was your intent saying you are not ready to pay now? Just because you said you were at one time?

Sorry we hurt your field, mister. I'll get off your forum now...

Can I just say, in the not too distant future, when Skylar posts professional studio photographs of these mic bodies (read: GEAR PORN) then all differences will be forgotten and you'll be able to hear the muffled grunts and moans in the night air.

I wish I could buy into this project, but my bench is full at the moment and my wife is bound to ask questions about the number of boxes and farnell jiffy bags that have been delivered to our house in the past 3 months!!! She probably thinks I'm building a satellite...

;D

Well, for the record, I'm not offended by anything anyone has said here.

I honestly just want a nice mic body for myself, and I figure if other people can get in on it too, we all can enjoy the cost savings of a large production run.

To quote the formidable Rodney King...
"Can we all get along?"
