I was told by a guy that a company can do its own ul certifications?
What the hell?

Back last century while working at Peavey we had our own in house lab and UL certification guy. If it is just testing gear to meet established and well understood standards, it isn't heavy lifting. While buying the specialized test equipments and paying a body to do all the tests is not cheap, it will generally be cheaper than paying UL to do routine testing at their labs. It gets more expensive if/when you deal with new off the sheet technology, requiring negotiating and writing new standards. I suspect most major manufacturers do their own testing not unlike Peavey did.I was told by a guy that a company can do its own ul certifications?
