Would this work as an AF doubler?

Hmmm... What's C1 doing there?

This is a rough sketch of version 2 - AF doubler. I haven't been able to find much info on a doubler like this on the net or in my books at home. Is that because it is impractical in some way?

I built version one out of BJTs, and it was much more complex; the doubler section included a bridge rectifier and a step-up transformer. It was so funky that the simulator wouldn't have any of it - it didn't make much sound either.

I'd probably have to LP filter the output to avoid making it a detector, but that'd be no problem... Or I suppose I could filter up some neg. feedback.

I figured I'd run this one by all y'all here at the forum before I attempted a build.

You can just use the 'precision rectifier' circuit out of any meter driver. Just skip the filter. -Or a transformer, a bridge rectifier and another transformer.

Basically it's just a polarity splitter and a pair of diodes to chop off one half of each polarity and just give you both input pole halves in the same output pole.
