@plautus

Try recording in your mic , with your hand in front of your mouth. How does it sound? Muddy & Dark.

Are those microphone problems? No
That's why you need acoustic treatment :)

ok, this has little to do with the mic problom I'm having but thanks
this would only make the voice sound more 'inside the video', it wont take away the microphone issue like the harshness, the muddiness, etc. THese are problems of the microphone itself
On the contrary❗
Reflections, resonances, room modes, standing waves, etc., reside in phase changes, and damage to the frequency response (random peaks and dips), so in short, they change the sound captured by the microphone, they mutilate it.
[Voice-room-microphone] is an interactive system.

Experts are showing extreme good heartedness and helpfulness.
Against all the odds....
They also, apparently, have oceans of patience. Or Himalayas. (Pick one)
👏✨
Me, not an expert in mics, I'm just being sarcastic.
...you're just an artist/philosopher wandering around here among other philosophers/artists...

@plautus - tell me please:

Why do you ask questions if you ignore the answers?

Your recording place is accoustically awful. Tragic. But you know better that the problem lies in your microphone. OK, sell it. Throw away. Get rid of it.
Everything is perfect but the microphone.

Buy a BM-700. It fits your recording condtions perfectly.

Or read the bloody forum. Twice. And then again. And again. (I did it).
And build yourself a perfect microphone. All the necessary information is here. You dont know how to solder? The answer is simple: learn. It's not difficult.
Just start reading. Paying attention to what is written. Paying attention to the answers that experts gave you.
You know nothing (it's painfully obvious) yet you ignore what knowleable gremium tells you. Every bloody advice.
Why you ask then?

untreated vs treated room

untreated - sound with echo
treated - same sound but without the echo...

On the same note: A 1000$ mic doesnt sound the same as a 5$ mic under the same bad untreated room conditions. The difference in sound is humongous

U guys need to watch some 'before and after room treatment' videos!

The higher-quality the mic, the more accurately it adheres to "garbage in, garbage out".

Or fine, if you're the expert at THAT, rent a U87 (~2k retail price), and see how it sounds in your room.

And you've got a hell of a lot of reading, learning and growing up to do...

Well, we don't know how many of us he has or hasn't added to his ignore list...

1. Not "echo" but reverberations or reflections. These are precisely defined terms. You cannot have echo in a small room.

2. It's more complicated than that. A lot more. See: @micolas ' post #162.

3. Yes - a treated room. Your is not treated.
Well, technically it is... it is badly treated.

You, man, need to learn a lot!

I had them all here and I compared a tlm103, tlm193 with my rode nt1. The tlm103 sound a lot different than the other 2 mics. UNpleasently bright just like I know the sound from other videos. So there u go!
