I just came up with this huge and cheap mic that I found on my local market. Did not expected the size... 23x5,5cm, 565gr

The body is somewhat thick and heavy (285gr) but rings a lot. The headbasket is lightweight (87gr), does not feel so good. Two layers mesh and internal antipop.

Haven't seen this body on Ali, any thoughts?

I bought a body off AliX just like that last year. It was the body only, no electronics. I got it to make a U-67ish microphone, but have enough better bodies that I will not likely need it for that purpose. It is the right size for that, though. The headbasket is similar in size and shape to Chunger's Budget-YT5, if you have seen those, but quite a bit "cheaper" feeling.

I am thinking of swapping the headbasket onto a GT-2B body to make an M49b. The 9:00 and 3:00 "clock" positions in your second photo above are the right size to drill two M2 holes to attach to the GT-2B body.

I know about SYT-5 bodies but thought they were smaller. I also thought about something a la 49, to try that kind of headbasket with k47. Thanks for the GT2B tip!

I just gave it a try and no surprise it's noisy as hell, completly unuseable. Also, just noticed the two electrolitycs values are printed backwards on the pcb xD

The fet is K 596 with grounded source, and the gate seems to lack a ground resistor. Does the electret circuits don't have it?

Edit: 1G resistor between source and gate made no difference :/

Have you seen the first page of the datasheet? Or the second one, where the "test circuit" is pictured?

Hint: Especially with FETs (J/MOS), the Japanese part numbers often drop the "2S" prefix. At least in the case of BJT's, i believe that was supposed to symbolize "2 Silicon junctions", if i'm not much mistaken.

Yes, I have seen that resistor (and diode) in the schemo. That's why I tried a 1g there
(Seems that I have edited the same time you posted)

Btw, disconnecting the capsule does not help

The circuit seems similar, will take a look, thanks!

Edit: a RC filter after the zener made almost no difference :/

Btw, it almost sound as a fig8 capsule.
