I'm stuck deciding which amp I should build with. I'm leaning toward the EF80X. I realize it's extremely subjective and there may be strengths and weaknesses for each one but...

Dany, can you comment on the differences between  amp / tube choices?

I'm okay with completely subjective terms like "pillowy", "hi-fi", "tubey" but of course am interested in noise (or the lack of).



By the way, I believe Ben started building his Arabellas with EF12s but switched to the Russian equivalents 6ZH8, 6SJ7 and 5693 (not sure if they're all Russian).

My Arabella had the 6ZH8; it sounded great and was quiet (low noise).

So Dany's heads are compatible even with the original u48(of course in card position only) yesterday we made some tests, it was fun.

Connectors are different,but the pins are compatible. U48 has an extra 1000pf cap for the back membrane.
