I've got some TSC-2 cartridges here and I'm curious about patterns other than cardioid. Is this basic circuit capable of powering both sides of a cartridge or is additional circuitry required?

And between omni and figure 8 my guess is that omni would have the rear face reverse phase (both diaphragms moving the same direction) and figure 8 having the rear face moving independently from the front. Or maybe I've got that backwards, but those are really the only ways I can see to connect the cartridge with two faces and a common back plate.

Is any of that correct?

If you MacGyver a pattern switch somewhere somehow, you could have access to omni, in addition to cardioid.

Otherwise, you will indeed need a "full fat" U87(A) circuit.

You may want to build a full U87ai clone. For example U87 Fuchs.

The yellow and black wire is a TC2 Taskar capsule. The the red and blue wire is a JLI same as TZT Ali Express capsule or Alibaba Getwin. The CTS-2 in the AKG P220 or P420 , the capsule wire is yellow. JLI you make beautiful Alice circuit.I would buy from Vami if you want the real TC2 Taskar K87 or CTS-4 C12 capsule. Best. Just had a couple of JLI's 'TSC-2's turn up today.

Also just took a much closer look at my AKG P420 and yes, the capsule looks more like @Papa Tango Charly 's image with the protruding screw heads from the bezel...

Looks like what JLI send out doesn't match the image on their website? Which does look much more like the Takstar.

It does look quite a bit like the RK-87 from micparts though?

These capsule JLI TSC - 1 from JLI looks like the Ningbo. The same one they are selling at microphone part. 31$ JLI TSC - 1 from JLI is not the price they selling they capsule at Ningbo, i'm telling you! If you and me want to buy a capsule at Ningbo you are going to pay much more unless you buy large quantities.
Getwin are making cheap copy of Ningbo K87 and C12 i have bought them all at JLI and at Getwin.
They are copies Ningbo K87 or C12. They don't sound the same as the Ningbo.

Ningbo capsules from Microphone Part are well known for having a bright sound and very large frequency response that can always be corrected with the ORS87 condenser. It's always good to have a wide frequency response that you can always correct and sculpt with the circuit.

Look at the C12 and K87 at Getwin and at JLI
