Wow, that is an incredible find!  Recollections by an original design engineer replete with documentation of the whole process.  I had to download all the chapters for reading off-line.

Although it's sometimes elliptic, it's great.
The part where he describes the jigs to pair FET's , and the way he managed to integrate them in interchangeable modules is simply great.
