Don't know what's gone down and haven't got time to trawl through the messages to find out, but instinctively I'm with Justin on this. Let's not knee-jerk.

Keep it open
keep it free
keep it creative

I'm off back to the bench now - have a date with a hot iron.

I don't see what the squawking is about... this is probably the calmest forum that I visit.

The "ignore" solution works well and if that fails, the moderator can exercise the option to hit the delete key.

Free is good unless there is a reason for it (paying for server space, etc). Payment is still a pain when going across countries, especially for small amounts. Maybe Paypal makes it easier these days.

As for abuse, it happens. Klaus has some rules and he enforces them on his board. This board is more loose than that, and that attitude promotes free information exchange. It also maybe makes for articles that some people can't understand, but that's ok too. If you want to talk about space charge distribution in a pentode or mic backplate chamber volumes, so be it. The interested audience reads it, the ones that don't understand it and don't want to skip it.

The down side is that the openness of the board also makes it easy for abuse. Maybe that's the tradeoff we need to have?

Well I don't know what the fuss is about also although I feel a bit of guilt asking about the Cilletti Kit.

But is athat all it takes to cause big waves. I maybe don't remember all that was said on the thread but I will agree with most that it just seemed to go in a direction that I for one never expected (it had nothing to do with my original question).

However given all that I don't mind registering if that will make things better. But I have a feeling that would be the beginning of the end.

Having an open forum like this will always attract some people that don't have decent intentions or don't know how to behave in a civilized manner.

I don't know whatthe answer is other than talking about it amongst all of us. This will show the real colours.

I mentioned a phrase "good intentions" in the Cilletti thread more than once I think. That is what I believe most of us have here. Sometimes things get out of hand and someone looses it and then someone else that had a bad day looses it and so on. You get a chain reaction (or chain over-reaction!).

Lets look at all the good things that are here (good people) and then look at the bad. A small wave once in a while is part of life and we should be strong enough to take it. It shoudl make us stronger.

I love lurking ( I haven't contributed like others ) here and its part of my daily web surf and learning experience. I have been very much influenced by many of you without you knowing it. I am building my studio at this moment and raising 2 boys etc. Like many here I am sure I am anxious to start on a DIY project but haven't found the time to get going.

I really value this place because of the members. Also its great to see people from all over the planet co-operating so well in this day and age.

This place has a great vibe. Don't let one incident here and there discourage you. What was the last time we had disagreements with our friends? They still are our friends right? Part of life thats all.

Jim
