The best way to get the hammerite finish is to use the Hammerite brand paint.
It's the most DIYer-friendly type of paint I ever met. You can use brush, little paint-roller, or air compressor....
The quality of the finish is NOT dependant on how you apply the paint! Just cover the surface, and it will work itself.

Every diyer should try it!

isn't that "hamered" finish just a natural texture of zink?
I've been following this thread since some time now and just want to say that it's amazing what you guys do there.

AFAIK the hammered finish is and old paint style called "martele", originally a paint with a high content of Pb, and aplied in a oven. Is a very resistent finish used in a lot of 40´s equipment.

Hammerite provides this finish. As mentioned, it's the easiest stuff to use in the world. Apart from toast.

Here's what I've got so far on the PS enclosure design:

In other news, some of the binder connector samples came in.
These will work just fine, I think...very high quality.

Great, Skylar!

The case looks great,
and the connectors too, high quality..

I was luckily able to get 2 Max's MK7 kits, this run..
definitely interested in 2 of your mic bodies and PSU enclosures.

Thanks for your work!

Looks great, too bad I already bought 2 hammond enclosures... oh well they'll find their use somewhere in the future

I'm really excited about the connectors too. They look alot like the originals but for a fraction of the price  ::) I vote for binder connector on both cable ends !

thanks to everyone involved once again !!!

Thank you everyone.

Just an update...

I'm still waiting to hear back from various shops.
There are multiple facilities in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Illinois, West Virginia, Connecticut, and California all quoting the mic body right now.

I am strongly considering assembling the headbaskets myself with the help of two other people who have volunteered their time.
I will probably have a custom punch & die made for the headbasket top, so that the mesh can be consistently formed in a punch press (as in the Neumann video).
The main mesh & top mesh itself will be cut to spec by the supplier.

I found an alloy for welding dissimilar metals at low temperatures (350°F).

This should make it easy to weld stainless mesh to the brass rings with a heat gun!

I will probably get some samples of this stuff to play with.

I am expecting more binder connector samples on Monday.
Once I have these, I will be able to finalize the end-cap dimensions.

this looks to be one of the most (for me) promising threads right now. keep us posted, i would definitely be in for two for my MK7s. PS cases as well, depending on final price.
