I'm having trouble keeping up with the actual design details here, so excuse me if I'm repeating a question,

What capsule mounts are supported by this body/design?

I take it least these will work?

http://www.thiersch-mic.de/en/estm_produkte.html

What else is there?

Thanks,
Mike

Me too, the thread is difficult to browse, and the search function isnt really helping.

Skylar..
can you add to your EQU47 feeler site, a page with the dimensions / design details / compatibility?
Or maybe a read-only sticky thread here, or a file on google groupdiy..
On a side, that will make maybe more simple to steal your design, but on the other
I think it will be very useful for all people interested.

Mike, the Thiersh mounts will work, as will the ones being sold by Burdij in the BM, as will the mounts sold by Lewilson in the BM, provided you have posts from donor (chinese) mounts.

From what I can tell the Thiersh will work without shimming to get the capsule to sit at the correct height (45mm)

Hope that helps

Jim

Hey Craptical, I see youre in malmö too. Im thinking of buying one of these bodies, and i suppose you are too? Do you want to split shipping costs to save some money perhaps?

Im not sure how much shipping will be though, so perhaps it isnt really necessary, but atleast it would be something to consider.

Information on the recommended PSU connectors would be appropriate as well. Was the body designed for just one brand/model of connector (tuschel/neutril/amphenol), or what?

Tommypiper and anyone else that may be annoyed by earlier post -

No one is annoyed, I was trying to help you.   ;)  I think we all try to make our posts move the topic or knowledge forward in some way.

All the answers to your questions are already addressed in this thread, as I mentioned.  Research.  Reading.  Use the search.  It's how we all learn.  Chat with members via PM and email.  Also check out other forums where microphones are discussed.  Read up on the U47.  Do Google searches.  ETC!  Invent your own theories about why / how things work, then try to proof them with your research.  Have fun.  This is DIY.

However this is not shopping or asking someone at the sales counter which brand of microphone is "better."  Those discussions might be better placed in another thread.  I explained in detail why I think the U47 has "mojo."  You make up your own mind.  I'm no expert.  Everyone may have a different opinion.  There is no one "right" solution or design.  Unless you decide it is right for you.  But that leads to philosophy and the meaning of life...  :D so I think we better move on.   :)

Last time I read this thread he said he was working on it.
Pictures of the design are a few pages back.

The bottom cap was designed around a binder connector. If I understand correctly, this connector had most visual similarity to the original. And it looks much sturdier than an xlr7

As mentioned on skylar's info site I think it's possible that a group buy will be organized (I hope :))

For what it's worth.  According to Bruce Swedien, the chrome grille on the U47 "greatly affects the character of the sound".

The only ways the chrome plating might affect the sound that I can think of would be the build up/thickness of the plating on the smaller mesh size causing a change in % open area(the larger size meshes might have be reduced area but not as much a % change)and maybe the flow of air over the wire at the small mesh size changes a bit due to the change in smoothness of the mat or shiny chrome finish.

I have read riblets on the hulls of ships reduce drag, so when things get small with water smooth might not be as good as controlled not smooth.  Maybe the small mesh size has another affect beside the % open area part.

Or maybe nothing changes at all but the look.

Skylar when I clicked on the link I got a AVG warning for the web site.  Has anyone else seen this?

There seems to be a trojan on the site? I tryed open the survey site 3 times and was stopped everytime by my protection, cleaning now...

Hey guys,

I just got back from SXSW 11pm last night only to find that my site was infected with a virus.
My network administrator took the site down for repairs.

I believe the site is actually back up now.

I am terribly sorry for that!

Anyway, I'm going through everyone's various questions and will address them soon.
I'm just trying to recuperate from the festival for the time being.

The prototype mic bodies are being shipped to me right now, so I will have those soon.
The shop sent me a photo of the parts, and they look good—of course, I'll inspect them closely once they arrive and post photos for everyone to see.

Much more coming soon...

Skylar, nice work!

I'd like to change my preference for polished as well.

I'll be really curious to find out what method you find works the best for soldering (or otherwise adhering) the grill to the headbasket. It's something I'm working on figuring out right now for some DIY mics of mine. I've been curious about the solder paste.

Thanks!!

Your submission has been updated.

I will report my findings on grille construction once I have found the most optimal solution.
Solder paste should work great—I've got a few different paste alloys I'm trying.
Muggy Weld Super Alloy 1 may also be a great solution for one-offs.

I stupidly filled out the survey twice.....doh!  ::) but my interest is only for one mic....please deduct one from your total & hopefully this won't skew your results too much.
