Anyone tried these microphone capsules?

Looks great!! I got my capsules yesterday and I will refrain the chorus, that they were very well packed and look great! I am eager to hear those sound samples...I need to try to find some donor mics for these new capsules in the meantime.  ;D

+1

Got mine yesterday and had the mics all ready to try them. I've modified a pair of MXL2001 with the Royer 5840 tube circuit, which were sounding fantastic with the stock MXL capsules. I put these capsules in and like them more! And now with pattern options. I compared to my G7 with a Dale M7 capsule and they have very different flavors, but I can't say that either is better. Both are very transparent and real sounding. It will take a long time I think to sort out the +/- of the two.

I have some samples, but have no idea how to put them up here for folks to hear.
They are 44.1/24, and I assume people want them as .wav files.
Maybe upload them to the group gmail account?
Also, do you want a blind test?
I have cardioid and omni files of acoustic guitar, before and after the capsule switch.

I for one would like to hear those samples.

BTW I received my capsule last week. Looking good. Unlike the RK-12, this one comes without mounting post and frequency plot, but of course the price is quite different, too.
Thanks again, Johan! Excellent organizing.

I had hoped to be able to get a couple more, but I arrived very late to this party (can't believe I overlooked it), so I said I'd settle for one if need be, and that's what I got. But I could have done worse so I'm counting my blessings here.
That said, should there be another run, let me be the first to "order" a couple. Then I'll be on top of the list for a change. :p
Also, would it be a good idea to do a similar thing with the WGT equivalent of the RK-47? I'd be in for a couple of those, too.

Can anybody else see these, or can I only see them because I'm signed in to Soundcloud?

OK...I think I have these available to the public now.
Not sure what format (if any) that SC might have converted these into, but they were .wav files.
I have labeled them in an ambiguous manner..... "L" or "7"
This is acoustic guitar in cardioid mode in an untreated bedroom to get away from appliance noise. One sample is the old capsule, and one is the new.
The mic is a Nady 1050 with the CCDA circuit intact, and a 12AT7 tube. There have been some minor changes to the circuit, but the transformer is original. The guitar is a 1964 Harmony Sovereign with 3 month old strings.
Which is which?
There is a volume difference between the two capsules, so please take that into account...

I can see em! just going to give them a listen :) :)

Initial thoughts (internal laptop soundcard/k240 headphones) one is defined & "smoother" and a little fuller sounding, and much more natural. I hope thats the new one ;) (the "L" one)

Thanks for doing that! Neat to hear these capsules in action.

edit: the more i listen to the files the more i like the "L". quite excited :)

7 seems a little muddy and a touch darker. L has a much more distinct akg-ish top end, gotta be the new capsule.  i hope  ;)

i'd better get some parts ordered and boards etched, sounds like capsules should be here soon!

Hi Folks,
Thanks for playing along. I have now added samples of the mic in Omni mode with both capsules.
They are labeled "@" and "&".

very tricky indeed, at least on beyer dt770's.  the sound of the room might be masking some differences in omni?  so subtle that it could be down to variation in technique or mic position, but i'll say @ and L are the new capsule.  when i compare the beginnings of @ and &, & seems to have a little more flub in the bottom.

Very true, also it seems that  most cheaper stock diaphragms tend to sound "smoother" in omni, for whatever reason (maybe I'm crazy)... So the fact that our capsule still sounds smooth in cardiod is a definite plus. (assuming what capsule I'm assuming is the new one)

I am very happy with these capsules for the cost and quality.
Would there be a possibility for a similar group buy for the center terminated capsule?
