I still get a little testy when people call me sir, (Don't call me sir, I work for a living!), but as an old geezer now I let it slide...

My Mentor (decades ago) was a 60-year old silver-haired WWII veteran of REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) who used to growl: "Don't call me 'sir'... ANY fool can be called 'sir'!!!"

During WWII he was concentrated on how to teach and illustrate electronic and radio principles to young 'cannon fodder'... (I'm slightly exaggerating, but that was a part of it) and as a result, I got a unique, grizzled/finely aged take on so many things to which I owe him an immense debt.
